KL has announced that starting S21 shorthaul coach pax will only be served vegetarian sandwiches. The purpose is to protect the climate and save the world. J class pax will not be required to contribute to the fight against global warming, and will still get to enjoy meat and fish.

Thanks for sharing this excellent news. I'll make sure to fly KL'sY more often with a heart filled with pride.
Maybe they could also follow AF's footsteps and stop serving food and alcohol altogether for short hauls. This would definitely save the world.

So many airlines now taking advantage of Covid to basically eliminate inflight service, just sad

At the same time they are desperate to get people flying again.

In their effort to reassure the public that flying is safe, the airlines are achieving the opposite: by reminding us at every turn and on corner of all the measures they are taking (except keeping middle seats free, of course) to combat this extremely lethal virus that is apparently lurking on every seat cushion and tray table, and dancing in the air like an invisible cloud of Mayflies, they are constantly encouraging Covid paranoia. As if governments are not doing enough to inculcate a culture of fear already.

The hotel industry is not doing much better.

Walk into any hotel these days and you are greeted by something like this. Welcome and enjoy your stay! No wonder hotels are almost empty.

Thanks for the information, Johan. I hope it will be a nice cheese sandwich, which I prefer over a not so nice ham sandwich any day.

However, I still would like to add a critical note: My employer decided to change the canteen to 1 non-veg menu and 3 veg menus. Canteen staff told me that they have to prepare very large quantities of the only non-veg dish and it still sells out around 12:30. Meanwhile, they prepare minimal quantities of each veg option and still throw away 90% of it, which has increased food waste by about 50% overall. I dare to doubt this is saving the planet, quite the opposite.

Although I'm pragmatically vegetarian, I think it is a really bad idea to attempt to force vegetarianism or veganism down people's throats.

Being a vegetarian myself, I fully agree to above statements about the 1 non-veg - 3 veg menus.
regarding the cheese sandwich on KLM: I have to say that I would welcome some more (vegetarian) alternatives. So far I never came across something else than the cheese sandwich on KL. There are so many good vegetarian alternatives, that I don't understand why vegetarian is always reduced to "cheese".

After all the vega information i have some more interesting news for all you flying longhaul;

KLM is stepping up its service , most notably in WBC again;

Effective 23rd september, KLM is offering welcome tray again in WBC and that includes Champagne.
Afterwards a one starter on the tray is offered followed by the 2 choices .
Coffee tea and individually packed chocolate houses will be offered.

The second meal will have 2 hot options also in breakfast

On flights to Ams breakfast on so called short destinations ( most of them under 7/8hours) will not have choice as most passengers prefer breakfast shorty before arrival.. There will be 120% load of meals to ensure choices.Granola is also available.

For economy ; no choice in meal( vega) however coffee service is offered after meal followed by a meal bag and before landing as mentioned before a hot snack and drinks are offered. .

Drink selection will be enlarged with fresh orange juice ( EBC/WBC)and milk, as a fridge will be back on board.

On EUR flights there will be more choice in EBC boxes, eg different in/outbound option and also a wider selection of drinks( eg San pelligrino) etc will be available.
In economy on the longest flights more variety in vegetarian sandwiches will be offered and ..new a muffin will be offered. Longest flights are MAD/LIS/ATH and the likes. No hot snacks yet. TLV is now also catered as a EUR flight. Renewed destination Cairo however is not as its operated in b 777 2 x a week.
Safe travels. Information retrieved from internal sources and measures should have been into effect yesterday.

NOTE; on flights to India and UAE now meals on a tray which they where not allowed before due to some local regulations
Looking forward to pics upgraded service

Hurray!

Nothing against that Caesar Salad, it's actually pretty much OK, but you only want to eat so many.

Just got this as well but in C due to catering issues.
FA apologized and offered either 7000 miles or a €50 voucher.

Amazing!

They operate at only one third of capacity, the meal selection has been cut to the bone, yet they still manage to screw up aircraft provisioning time and again. Lunch for breakfast, breakfast for lunch, coach meals in J . . .

Would take that over the meal--even at pre-covid standard--any day of the week.

Indeed. I thought that it was fairly generous compensation.

Sad to hear they downgraded the standard comp from 8000 to 7000 miles. However the 50 eur voucher choice is interesting. Which option would you take?
