There is a bike and a tulip on the plastic cup!
That should have required some serious design brainstorming -- or maybe these decorations provide additional safety protection for the staff and passengers. I'm still a bit confused about what's for safety and for flight enjoyment these days... Serving wine is a plastic cup in J certainly checks one box, but which?

Given the design I thought that was a bike helmet?!?

So on KLM, regardless of flight length, in WBC it's one service with a hot meal (no choice in main) and for the remainder of the flight a snack bag? Any experiences on flights longer than JFK?
AF now offers a choice of 4 mains and a second service as well:

  • The self-service bar and a snack basket available on day flights up to 6.30 hours and on all other flights longer than 10.30 hours, remain as is. This counts as well for the cold buffet on flights longer than 10.30 hours.

FWIW Michelin-starred chefs have created signature mains for AF while KLM pax will have to manage with only visually curated items...

Hm, Expertflyer shows wide open flights, even at short notice, and the price is very low (800-odd for a return outbound tonight and back on Sunday), so I don't know where the full flights to GRU are.

Given that the shorthaul crew clearly don't operate on longhaul flights, perhaps they are not the best judges of such things...

I will definitely “go Dutch” and cover the expenses of my own meal, which I will bring onboard the flight on my own. Clearly there is no other way about this. Heck, I might even bring my own wineglass.

KLM's customers don't care who selected the food or menu - all they care about is who designed the flatware, cutlery, condiment containers and tray!

I think those plastic cups arrived around the same time that they had Blond Amsterdam design the "sandwich boxes" in Economy a few years ago. (EDIT: Eek! That was well over 10 years ago)

The plastic cup isn't quite as "whimsical" as you would associate with Blond Amsterdam, but they also had KLM mugs and reusable coffee containers for sale for a while....

Took a 9.5h flight last week and there was a hot meal indeed, then the snack bag and sometime halfway there was a broad variety in sandwiches (not the economy ones, a bit more sophisticated).

AS per their website (back in Post 54 of this thread), there should always have been a hot meal on flights of more than 9 hours....

Ah yes, burgundies and grand cru, the typical KLM wine selection. Weird way to spell Rioja, Argentinian bottom-tier wines and South African discount bin bottles.

My picture in post 110 already confirmed that at least since mid-June this has been the case, but KLflyerRalph specifically asked for the catering service now.

If I’ll be flying similar route in the near future, I think I’ll be bringing my own food, to make it a little bit more enjoyable especially on the long flight. At least the silverware works.

Yes, I would definitely bring your own food if you're considering it. I'm not a picky eater and generally eat whatever the flight crew put in front of me. However this meal I couldn't stomach. The dinner served on my outbound long-haul flight was ok (not great, but at least edible). My 4-year old way happy with that large mound of rice though.

Yes, unfortunately. The J cabin was very empty but I overheard someone else complaining loudly that he was a vegetarian and couldn't eat this dish because it contained "meat". I think he said he paid $7000 for his ticket, so he was understandably upset with the catering. They also passed out the infamous snack bag on the flight (clementines, biscuits, chocolate, stroopwafels, Coke, water bottle) a few hours later.

Good news for those who collect the Delft houses. On the outbound flight there was a house waiting at my seat when I boarded, but on this flight they came around with a tray with lots of houses, so at least you could pick your own (if you're trying to avoid duplicates). I got a duplicate on my outbound flight but they were happy to swap it out in the Non-Schengen lounge from their house cart.

Yes they do.

In any case, as you will no doubt have read in post #163 , it was the husband of the FA I had a conversation with who was on the GRU flight.
