Good to see that they have resume service on this sector back to normal times. Even under pre-pandemic situation, KL was always much better in onboard service and seating (Eco+ for eligible pax) while AF only had beverage service and no Eco+/preferred seating like KLM.
Although in J, it was the opposite (if I remember correctly), AF was much better. Cheers! No major changes on short haul or economy planned for moment. For those off you flying long haul in C class several improvements. Cheers to that , full selection of drinks is back as well! |
Any new pictures of the WBC menu? Since the catering seems to change every week. I will be flying AMS-MEX in a couple of weeks and I'm wondering what I can expect, especially regarding drinks (liquors, dessert wine?)

Not too bad at first glance. Seems a bit scaled down, though.

Thanks! Did the cabin crew roam the cabin and offer refills and stuff? And did they have snacks in between meals since the length of the flight? :)
BTW you’ll find cabin crew in J mostly chatting with and serving other KL colleagues flying on free tickets rather than paying passengers, so it’s sometimes hard to get attention, based om my experience from numerous recent flights, but pressing the cabin attendant call button in your seat will do. |

The strangest thing happened to me during today's CDG-AMS flight. Being a short-haul EU flight (is there any shorter feeder flight than this other than BRU-AMS?), and flying in Y, I was not expecting much - especially after flying mostly AF for the past 3 months.
When FAs started roaming down the aisle, I was expecting a dumb form to fill. Lo and behold, they came one once, not twice, but three time. And what they brought was... breathtaking to say the least. Individually-packaged gel (actually useful to fight covid). Food. Drinks. With bubbles, adult beverage, and hot drinks available. I started to doubt my eyes when they came back for coffee refills before landing. Thumbs up to KL. This is how you do business in a challenging situation, this is how you bring back customers. |

It looks like KLM makes great effort in offering a normal service in Y on CDG-AMS. In J, however, it is still the cinnamon piece of stodge instead of a meal, regardless of the time of day. Odd choice to provide a normal catering service in Y and a degraded one in J, IMO.
I few ARN AMS and AMS LYS today, and service seemed normal on both Y and J. Though I recall from either CDG-AMS or AMS-CDG on Friday that J indeed was served the dreaded snack bag. Not sure if it's a matter of leg length or catering capabilities at the origin airport. Anyway, it's still way better than AF's glasses of water. On the last AF-operated CDG-AMS we also experienced FAs yelling at pax who got up too soon after landing... From the sound of it it seemed like we were bracing for impact -- but no, they were just protecting us from covid by preventing Y pax to get up before J was fully de-planed. What a treat to be yelled at like pre-schoolers at recess. Love was definitely in the air. |

Could it depend on the route and/or catering options?

Yes, it is a length of flight thing. The cinnamon bun in J is served on short flights.
The purser who served me a Caesar's this evening (fortunately I got the bulgur salad this afternoon) told me how embarrassed the cinnamon service made him feel. Johan |
I'm not a fan of the bulgur salad but after so many caesar salads I guess its ok, but geez that cinnamon bun is really terrible, tried it once, never again. If only they had a salty option... the number of people I see just refuse the "bag" is staggering, and I'm one of them.
Have they added desserts or are the mango and chocolate mascaropes the only ones now? |
If you fly often enough it's the lack of variety that finally gets to you. Who wants to eat the same meal twice in a day, or even on two consecutive days?
The dessert is now a passion fruit thing (yes, with a menu sticker). As for salty alternatives, all flights should stock Sfogliette mini crackers, but you have to ask. They come in two flavors, pizza and olive. Johan |
The Bulgurs beat the Caesars 2 - 1 in under 24 hours.
The second Bulgur even came with a menu without a sticker. Guess that means they will change the dessert as soon as they have printed new stickers. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7c23f1965b.jpg Johan |
What's the situation with coffee/tea/drinks and snacks outside mealtimes in longhaul Y? Those snack bags look terrible.
