Unfortunately it's not possible at the moment at all either way unless you have a business meeting, are approved, and are one of the 5000 allowed in that day, so until they start allowing tourism, or if they make an exception for transit, you can't do it.

Both Etihad and ANA are in T1. Meaning the flown is pretty compact and quick, so yeah 1h20m is not outside of the realm of reality. On two tickets it is a quite risky connection though, as ANA will not know that you are not originating in Tokyo as your ticket would show. Does ANA allow for online check-in to your final destination?

I am considering the following itinerary departing in about a week:
LAX-NRT on NH in J (booked through VS)
connecting same day to:
NRT-SIN-DPS on SQ in Y (booked through UA)
I cannot enter Japan so I'm wondering if I should anticipate any problem with NH 1) allowing me to board at LAX, and 2) checking my baggage through to DPS. I will arrive very early to deal with any problems.

If you are on SQ11 all things should be fine, if you are on SQ637 your connection is not possible to fly as it requires an overnight in Narita.
ANA will want to check your document requirements in details for Bali and transit requirements for Singapore (I don't know if they still have any of those). And they may not be used to the Indonesia requirements, so may take a bit. And bring everything in print, including your second eticket, while not necessarily needed, it can make things easier.

I’m planning to travel ARN-FRA-HND-LHR (the long legs in first) and spend 5 hours on the ground airside in Japan. Do you think I will run into any trouble because of this “unusual” routing?

Just be aware that NH204 is currently operated with 787-9.
NH211 has been cancelled since NH stopped using Russian airspace. You'll have to see what route and timing it comes back with, or when the war in Ukraine ends so things can go back to normal.

It should not be an issue to connect in Haneda like that.
Just be aware that NH204 is currently operated with 787-9.
NH211 has been cancelled since NH stopped using Russian airspace. You'll have to see what route and timing it comes back with, or when the war in Ukraine ends so things can go back to normal.

Booked a transfer from TK to NH for next week (HND, 3 hour layover).
Saw a report where someone was denied boarding for doing a similar thing in BKK with TK.
Anyone have any experience with TK check-in at IST for Japan?
