I believe you that you didn't like the hotel. We all have different experiences, nothing wrong with that. If you like IHG, you can try the Kimpton, it's a better location too.

Yes like it should be. I can see that other people have also enjoyed this hotel judging by this thread so it was a big surprise for me when my experience was not so good.

Is the 1bedroom club the next step up from upgraded classic with club? I am trying to get the 1bedroom upgrade via ambassador or diamond

I believe:

Club KING room - > executive suite KING (1 bedroom suite WITHOUT balcony)

Others on this thread might argue though :

Club KING no view - > Club King with view (garden court or street)

The hotel staff are first class. No doubt. The rooms and overall product is also impressive. It's not a bad (but far from perfect) location.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried the dinning options there? Breakfast aside?

But I have to say, the prices until October are horrible, especially when Kimpton can had substantially cheaper just up the road.

I don't know the Kimpton product there but what little I have read leads me to believe it is robust.

The pool is daily open but closes early if inclement weather expected or when the rooftop restaurant 173 starts opening for dinner (evenings at 19.30)

Also in the evening the pool is lit up neon cerulean blue for instragamable photos but however its surroundings are quite dark and that's why they don't allow evening dips as a safety hazzard. During pool operating hours, tableware & dishes & drinks are served in sturdy plastic to create a safe environment.

Verdict:
Although Barcelona has a myriad of food options,
You cannot deny the sheer ease of having tasty food with views here,
It was so easy and welcoming that me mum prefered to just dine here each evening as she didn't fancy going out late.
(we did not partake in the tapas + flamenco hype)
Staff was very attentive in English & Spanish :
no high performance but relaxed seating and laid back casual ambiance
Nothing pretentious so a good choice if you are travel weary or want an easy evening.
Or if you find yourself in the need of smoking a fag to satisy the nicotine craving and combine it with a reason to have something to eat also.
Lifesaver Hades! 173 it is. As my personal 'risk management consultant' ... you just made the decision for me

To be honest, we are taking friends from 'the island' and good folks as they are, they are very British in approach to food. Rather narrow, ultra processed, grilled to death and 'only if you recognise it' type

We went to Lyon IC last year and booked loads of 'wow' places and what a toe curl it became. And so .... 173 plays to a very safe audience. And indeed with our Vitamin D deficient weather scope, the rooftop temperature and ambience seal the deal.

Have been up there out of season a few times and it was nice enough then. But late Summer should be just perfect. Thanks for the assessment .... saved me a lot of grief and cost.

Thank you for your extensive documentation,
i see
Atacama40
left it all in good shape for you and tickled IC BCN to do that bit extra for RA this summer
- i see a Green Chocolate box (mine was purple) welcome amenity
- the beach bag (i want one of those)
- using the montjuic terrace as shaded area to eat/drink when 173 rooftop is schorching hot of the summer
- suncream and things : pretty nifty!

And very nice to finally see you a Quirat,
Hope you a great meal sampling those Catalan delicacies

Solo olive oil is like toots amazballs !

Would love to have a second chance for drinks
but unfortunatly i sear in the summer sun like an ahi-tuna aka tuna tataki

Whatever you said certainly made all the difference Hades. VC is a more than acceptable standard to spend a nice evening with and excellent news that it's back.

However, like you, I'm also with a quivering bottom lip at not being gifted one of those beach bags. Something I intend to correct in the near future. And rest assured sir, I will acquire one for you and send it. I hate missing a freebie..... it's an illness sure but one I've nurtured and crafted to perfection.

Sounds mad but I never realised there was an indoor pool until seeing Nicholas's review. How is possible to miss that? Looks nice as well.

I also had the exact same room as Nicholas had. It is nice quality and design although I did find the over bed lights way too strong and in poor eye line. Moved maybe 300mm across they would be great. But minor detail in the scheme of things.

Have to say for me ICBAR very much sets a very nice new bar of service and deliverables this year. It is very visible how well run the club lounge is and what an impact that has on the customer experience. Eliza runs a tight ship there.

It was February I was there Nicholas which probably explains why we didn't get them. They were only just setting up the top deck and far from in full Summer mode although the weather was amazingly good.

I'm going to get one gift wrapped for Hades ... I don't like him missing out ...... and hey that reminds me, I still have your Park Lane IC Bottle opener if you still interested. I didn't forget.

And I forgot to tell and I should have added this to the RA Soft Toy thread ....but .... wait for it ..... there's a new ICPL Bear. It's a slightly larger one than the old ones and get this, .... he's wearing a business suit! ....Photos to follow
