Based upon requests, this is now a wiki - please feel free to edit - but please only post the suite that you are confirmed into and not what you ultimately get (eg PH Vendome books into Park Suite but many ultimately get a Park Executive Suite). I'll start with that one for formatting example - I will try to do refinements to this when I have some time later.

To check the room type you booked into, you may use Hyatt E-Concierge:

No this is a perfect example that the amount of whining/complaining vs posting real information is increasing rapidly.....

I truly do apologize if this is the wrong thread. What is the proper thread (especially since I was hoping to get feedback from a Hyatt Gold Passport Concierge)?

Why not send a PM and post something once the property has opened.

Hello jrgiddyup,

It is correct that a Diamond Suite Upgrade can not be confirmed until the hotel has officially opened. It is also up to the hotels discretion if they choose to participate in the Diamond Suite Upgrade program as we already have several other hotels that currently do not accept the Diamond Suite Upgrades.

Thanks

Just so we can add it to the wiki, what hotels do not accept diamond suite upgrades?

It's in the T&C's: Upgrade awards are not valid at Andaz Tokyo, Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort, Hyatt Regency Kyoto, Hyatt Paris Madeleine, Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort, Park Hyatt Maldives, Park Hyatt Sydney, Hyatt Santa Barbara, Hyatt Key West Resort and Spa, Hyatt Regency Wichita, Hyatt Regency Tulsa, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House or Hyatt Residence Club resorts or M life resorts.

HR Tulsa and HR Wichita seem quite out of place on that list. Is it because neither property has actual suites?

Having been Diamond back when this benefit was introduced and now regained the status I'm sad to see that the certificates are now quite a bit harder to use than I recall. I had three late Dec holiday reservations in Southern California, which is fairly low period even over Xmas and New Years. All three hotels had suites online and are selling rooms for $140ish at HSB and HIW and $240 at HHB on the dates in question with plenty of availability in many room types.

All three failed to apply DSUs -- Hyatt Santa Barbara opts out entirely despite having many suite types showing online, Hyatt Huntington Beach needs availability of the "So Cal suite" (which is bookable online but doesn't even have a description loaded in the online booking system, making me wonder if it's just there to throttle DSU availability), and Hyatt Indian Wells needs availability of the "Executive Suite" or "Hospitality Suite". FT comments show that these suites exist, but they are not displayed in the online inventory even when available. Only the superior "Penthouse Suite" and various villas are loaded in the online booking engine. They also aren't described in the hotel website, and previous FT reports suggested that they were skipped in the hotel's renovations and look rather tired. So it makes me wonder if these suites are just kept for upgrades but aren't actively marketed to paying customers.

So I changed my itinerary to skip Santa Barbara and to make shorter stays with lower nightly rates at the other two hotels at points in the trip when the DSU inventory codes are available. I do appreciate the benefits of a guaranteed upgrade when travelling with family for the holidays, but here the restrictive implementation is making me stay fewer and cheaper nights with Hyatt than I would do if it didn't exist.

While I was worried that the list might be longer, I'm surprised that it sounds like "opting out" is fairly easy. Suite upgrade benefit is a universal benefit of the program, so I hope there's at least some scrutiny on who opts out...

HR Wichita is an odd duck. They have about 5 suites. The hotel more or less subsists on big conventions. And mgmt has a practice of comping suites to the planners / organizers.

The fact that the property is owned by the City of Wichita is a bit odd as well, IMO.

I stayed there last summer when the place was DEAD. Politely asked for an upgrade to a suite cause I was curious. Front desk first lied that they didn't have any. Then said they were occupied. Then said they it would cost me like $300. So I asked if I could use a DSU -- no.

Yes, it does bother me just a bit that they'll SELL me a suite upgrade but won't take a DSU. I know, it's within the rules..... but on day of arrival, if a Diamond shows up on a one-night stay, what's the harm in taking a DSU?

Obviously they don't care about Diamonds. I will avoid this property at all costs. There are Marriott properties I can select from.

Vote with your feet, but make sure to tell Hyatt about it too. I'm pretty sure a bunch of people at Hyatt are paid to care about the GP program and treatment of elites at hotels.

It's the same advice I put out there for people unhappy with an Amex FHR stay - tell Amex! Someone there is paid to care about the experience.

I thought this thread was about confirmed suite upgrades, not debates about where they can and cannot be used.

I would think some explaining when calling would do the trick, but it's not something under the standard rules.
