Based upon requests, this is now a wiki - please feel free to edit - but please only post the suite that you are confirmed into and not what you ultimately get (eg PH Vendome books into Park Suite but many ultimately get a Park Executive Suite). I'll start with that one for formatting example - I will try to do refinements to this when I have some time later.

To check the room type you booked into, you may use Hyatt E-Concierge:

Smile Diamond Status Match - help?

Hi

Sorry for the newbie questions!

I'm after some advice on my best options to gain upgrade on 2 14 day bookings I've made at the Hyatt Regency Sharm El Sheikh resort in Egypt on 7th June?

My wife and I have booked 2 x rooms via Expedia on a great B&B rate of stay 7 get 1 free, firstly will I be able to gain gold passport points on both bookings?

Secondly I wrote to Hyatt who status matched both mine and my wife's IHG platinum priority club to allow upgrade on our gold passports to 60 day Diamond status?

I noticed that one of the benefits of this is suite upgrade certificates but as I only received diamond status yesterday am I entitled under my Expedia booking to any upgrade to our current sea view king rooms?

Would I be better cancelling the Expedia booking and rebooking via Hyatt direct?

Which rate would I have to book to gain this upgrade as I understand as a diamond member I may be able to gain 20% rate saving on published rate?

Also if I did rebook would I be best to book each room under my wife and my individual hyatt cards?

Sorry for the questions, we're taking our daughter and son and law & baby on their honeymoon and want them to get the best upgrade possible to make there stay as memorable as possible so was hoping at least upgrade for them at least.

Thanks in advance A

I think it is the case. I booked PH Dubai under the rate that Suite was not showing up but it was available on more expensive rates. I did have no problems to use DSU.

Moreover, should you decide to extend your stay and make a new booking, you can extend your DSU further on. E.g. You booked the room for 4 nights and used DSU but later you decided that you want to say another 3 nights, so you make a new booking on hyatt.com (as it is usually cheaper or for BRG) and can further extend the same certificate for this 3 nights. That's cool I think.

I agree. I shifted about $5k in reservations to Hyatt because of my experience with DSU during challenge period. I've also turned into a Hyatt promoter among my colleagues and friends, which may or may not result in additional reservations being shifted to Hyatt.

Hyatt customer service is flat out superior, which makes me comfortable talking about it to people in my life.

I realize that Hyatt Diamonds will only get the best non-suite room, but has anybody had luck being upgraded to a suite without using a DSU? I'm going to Costa Rica in a week and this is their rainy season, so I can't imagine their occupancy would be too high.

Yup, plenty of people get upgraded without using DSU.

I'll second this one. An, if they don't upgrade you automatically just ask politely if there are any suites available. I'd say that a large % of my Hyatt stays have been upgraded at check-in.

Yes it sometimes happens.... But a suite upgrade is hardly very common. A bit of realism works a lot better in managing expectations.

I don't have that many stays under my belt, but I have yet to have a free suite upgrade. All of my suite upgrades have come from DSU.

Exactly.... It's fairly rare for a Diamond that is not a somewhat regular guest somewhere to get upgraded to a suite.

How often do you check back with GP team to see if a suite opens up. I requested a DSU but was declined as the hotel did not have any avilable.

Also how can you see what suite you have been confirmed into. I check online reservation but it does not show the room type.

If suite becomes available at check in, can we use DSU at the hotel?
