Based upon requests, this is now a wiki - please feel free to edit - but please only post the suite that you are confirmed into and not what you ultimately get (eg PH Vendome books into Park Suite but many ultimately get a Park Executive Suite). I'll start with that one for formatting example - I will try to do refinements to this when I have some time later.

To check the room type you booked into, you may use Hyatt E-Concierge:

Usually if the hotel is showing availability, you are able to use a diamond suite upgrade; however, it is at the discretion of the hotel when you call in.

Due to the summer being a busy time for Maui, I am not sure how much I would rely on them being available a month in advance. If I were you, I would book two paid reservations (if you plan on using Diamond Suite Upgrade)--one in a regular room and one in a POV suite. Then, when you get the suite upgrades in your account to use, you can apply it to the regular room reservation and if there is nothing available, they can take it from your POV suite reservation and cancel that because you will definitely be within the cancellation period.

Just an idea, but I'm pretty sure it would work...
I have a standing Points + Cash reservation. I understand that the DSU could be applied to a P+C res.

Here is an unrelated question: When I get the DSU upgrades, can I use them on a P+C reservation booked in my wife's name (under her GP number) with her paying the points portion of the res from her account, so long as I will be staying in the room with her?

You can book suites with points for stays of three nights or longer.

Andaz Maui would be 40000 points a night.

Ah, yes! I can't believe I forgot about this option.. I guess I just assumed they were only interested in using a diamond suite upgrade award.

PS If you choose to lock in a suite with points, call GP and see if they are willing to do it on the old point system. I did this today and booked a three night suite stay for 33k/night Cat 6.

Suite award is valid for reservations booked from 3/1/2013 to 2/28/2014 at participating Hyatt hotels and resorts where suite accommodations are available, and may be applied to future reservations. In the event a Suite award is redeemed for stay dates beyond expiration date and reservation is cancelled after expiration date, the Suite award will be forfeited. Upgrade must be requested and redeemed at time of reservation and is subject to availability. Upgrade confirmation will be provided at time of reservation. A complimentary suite upgrade is only valid on paid stays/nights, when paying an Eligible Rate for a maximum of 7 consecutive nights. Member must call 800.400.2261 or their nearest worldwide reservation center to redeem upgrade award. Upgrade awards are not available at Hyatt Key West Resort and Spa, Hyatt Regency Kyoto, Hyatt Regency Paris-Madeleine, Hyatt Regency Tulsa, Hyatt Regency Wichita, Hyatt Santa Barbara, Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort and Spa, Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa, Park Hyatt Sydney, Hyatt House properties, Hyatt Place properties and Hyatt Residence Club resorts. For the purpose of this award, a suite provides for standard one-bedroom accommodations. Suite upgrade award is not valid toward Specialty, Premier, Presidential or Diplomatic Suites. Award is not transferable, negotiable or redeemable for cash or other substitutions. Credit will not be issued for unused upgrade awards. Guest is responsible for all charges exclusive of awards. But there are ways the suite upgrades can be used by others. Not exactly a straight transfer but I had no problems making a booking from my account for my parents and applying the suite upgrade then..... I must say that I had two rooms booked then (and used two suite upgrades as well).

I recall someone mentioning before they can apply the certificates to anyone's reservation, not from their own account.

1. Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson
2. Hudson River Suite (http://jerseycity.hyatt.com/en/hotel/rooms/suite.html) (rm 604)
3. No idea about sq footage, but very spacious (even has tiny balcony with 2 chairs)
4. 1 king bedroom, 1 bathroom with shower (no tub)
5. A+
6. Fantastic views across the Hudson and south, including Verrazano Bridge and Statue of Liberty, of NY Harbor. Booked on $109 rate, suite is placarded at $3000/night. No lounge, so breakfast in restaurant. Hotel staff uniformly excellent. Food is only so-so. PATH to NYC adjacent to hotel. Will post pix & expanded review in hotel thread once I return home.

Large room or small suite?

What qualifies a "suite" as a suite?

I recently redeemed a diamond cert at the Hyatt French Quarter for what turned out to be no more than a very large room with two beds, a couch, and one very small bathroom. I saw many other rooms with balconies at least; the windows on mine didn't function. It was actually a very nice room, and it suited a solo business trip fine just fine, but I guess it bothers me to know that blind use of diamond certs (even at suite properties) will guarantee you so little. (If anyone can provide directions for posting a photo from an iPhone, I'll gladly oblige.)

I called in to apply a Suite Upgrade Certificate to a stay at the Park Hyatt Washington D.C. and the agent confirmed an upgrade to a "Park Executive Suite" from the standard base room. Sound about right for this property? Is there anyway to confirm the upgrade online? The website still shows the original room I booked.

I just used a DSU at Seattle Olive 8 and wanted to confirm online as well and it still shows standard base room but it did take one of my upgrades away so I assume it was processed.

I just called the Diamond line to confirm my remaining DSU at the Hyatt in DC. The phone rep was able to confirm my suite over the phone by calling the hotel. I then got an email confirmation. It appears the room has not yet been assigned because the reservation still says Room booked = King but the notes in the email state the following:
PTY IS USING A DIAMOND SUITE UPGRADE THAT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED PER KAYLA AT FRONT DESK CERT# (my cert # here)

So I assume the reservation will get updated once the front desk processes the request. I wonder if my request is on a little sticky note posted on the computer screen at the front desk waiting to be input?

I really like Hyatt but their processes seem very manual, but no problem, as long as everything works as planned.

The Gold Passport Concierge posted at one point that the way to tell if your upgrade has been processed is to look at the cancellation policy part of your reservation and that it should show there.

If you apply a suite upgrade that will expire on February 28th, 2014, can you change the dates of the reservation after that date without losing the suite upgrade?
