Lounge is on the 33rd floor of the older looking Harbor Tower, the one closer to the Marriott and Convention Center. Keycard access required and staff usually ask room numbers for breakfast and happy hour. $25 fee for bringing a guest to the lounge. There's apparently 24/7 keycard access for coffee, bottled water, computer use, etc. One bank of elevators serves floors 1-4 (meeting space, pools, etc.) and floors 29-40 (there's a view bar on 40 as well as a few rooms) while the other elevator bank on the Harbor side serves floors 1-4 and the lower room locations.

Breakfast ends at 9:30 weekdays, 11:00 weekends. Every day I saw bacon and some sort of sausage, hot eggs (scrambled plus trimmings to be added), raw ham, smoked salmon, croissants/bagels/bread varieties to be toasted, some cereal, IIRC oatmeal.

Midday snacks from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm weekdays, 11:30 am to 3:30 pm weekends.

Happy hour is from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm every day, with a selection of *free* wine and beer between 5 and 6, followed by the same wine and beer offered in the form of an honor bar from 6 to 9. Each day the food presentation includes a hot protein (cilantro chicken, grilled teriyaki salmon fillet big pieces, chicken putensca, and salmon cakes during my stay), hot mixed vegetable dish, some other cold/salad dish of the day, salad bar including slices of chicken breast, asparagus, olives, etc. with two dressings of the day, and interesting small cakes (cupcakes or pieces) for dessert.

There's a $35 plus tax resort fee (Globs exempt)

- $10 nightly F&B credit - Top of the Hyatt, Brew30, Seaview, Sally's, The Landing

- 24-Hour Fitness Center Access

- Daily 1-Hour Bicycle Usage- Wheel Fun Rentals

- One (1) Kayak or Paddleboard rental per stay

- (1) shoe shine - joey's shoe shine (no boots or suede)

- Premium High Speed Internet

- Wifi in Meeting Space for group events

- 10% Discount on Spa & Salon Services at Marilyn Monroe Spa on 3rd floor of Harbor Tower one visit per stay

- Access to hotel’s recreational courts and equipment, e.g. basketball, volleyball, and games such as giant shuffle board, Jenga, connect four, foosball, corn hole around the pool

- VIP Shopping Pass: Free and discounted items from local shops and restaurants at Seaport Village shopping center located directly outside Seaport Tower

- Rollaway Bed Rental: King rooms only

- Unlimited Phone Calls: Local & domestic long distance

- (1) 1-hr ticket for Harbor Tour per room per stay – Tour is on a modern yacht, 360 views, indoor & outdoor seating, snack bar and full service bar scenic photo opportunities

- One Craft Beer at Brew30 per room per stay

Ten minutes by taxi to/from the airport, perhaps more at rush hour. Fare was under $15 to the far end (DL, AS, UA, etc.) of the newer Terminal 2. Fare from Gaslamp area to hotel is about $7, also assuming no traffic. It's about a 20 minute walk to the Midway Museum and the cruise ship terminal/excursion boat docks.

Clearly not. I'm sure San Diegans that don't care about hotels, San Diegans who are little children, and many others group easily make "all" a bad presumption.
Do a google search on Doug Manchester, it is an interesting bio ( I don;t agree with his political views but it is an interesting read). He and his family are mega $$$ in San Diego.

It will be interesting to see what hotels are attached to his latest project, which will be only a couple blocks from the Hyatt.

http://www.manchesterpacificgateway.com/

There will already be the two new Marriott branded hotels and the new Intercontinental Hotel across the street.

There's already a big full service Marriott (convention center) almost next door to the Hyatt.

And a huge Hilton just across the (back) road from the Convention Center.

San Diego has a thriving convention business, and the convention properties regularly sell out right now. Most of the year, the Marriott Marquis prices at $350 and up during the week.

I'm quite familiar with the area as I worked at that location for 8 years. The Marriott and the Hyatt can also be had for much, much less when there isn't a major convention in town. That area of downtown is going to be flooded with hotel space, both old and new.

What hotel brand would even be available for these two new properties (one convention style, one luxury)?

The "Grand" Hyatt won't be so grand compared to all the new hotels around.

Does the Signature Suite have water views or does it face the city?

First time visitors for San Diego etc.

They are both great properties, but their locations are very, very different. GHM is at the epicenter of San Diego, with stunning views from upper floors. PHA is in another city and more of a resort.

Depending on traffic, it could take a while to get from the Aviara to SD proper.

If your trip is more than one night, why not both!?

The location of these two properties is so very different. Aviara is North County, in the hills. Manchester is Convention Center, across from the Gaslamp, on the water. You need a car at Aviara. Manchester, you can get around on foot and by Uber/Lyft.

What are you planning to do in San Diego?

we want a good mix of both (but won't like to change a hotel, we always think that this is really stressful) .

While we visited Miami two years ago ,we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Miami and thought that it was really hectic to be in the middle of the city.

Otherwise i heard so many good things about San Diego that we want to explore the city.

Therefore i think that it is a tough decision :-/

Then it's a no-brainer. Manchester Grand Hyatt. You're within walking distance of the main downtown attractions, and an easy transit or Uber ride to practically everywhere else.

I would never describe Manchester as a "great" property. It's a massive convention hotel with zero character, a cavernous uninviting lobby, and no decent dining options on property. They're also very tight with upgrades.

The only real positives IMO are the lounge and generous award availability.

It's character IS that it is massive -- in fact, doubly so -- but I can understand not enjoying that. That said, the Aviara is a little bigger-than-life as well, though in a very different way. Personally, I like to mix it up if for no other reason than the view from the Manchester lounge.

I certainly agree the Aviara has better on-site dining, including breakfast. But then it doesn't have all the restaurants and eateries that are close to the Manchester by car and even closer on foot.

No doubt Manchester is going to be much better for exploring on foot. I just didn't want to raise expectations about the property itself. Manchester is a decent hotel (and much quieter than anything in gaslamp Gaslamp), but it's not much more than a convenient, reasonably comfortable place to sleep.

I forgot to add that it does have a very solid fitness center, too.
