Lounge is on the 33rd floor of the older looking Harbor Tower, the one closer to the Marriott and Convention Center. Keycard access required and staff usually ask room numbers for breakfast and happy hour. $25 fee for bringing a guest to the lounge. There's apparently 24/7 keycard access for coffee, bottled water, computer use, etc. One bank of elevators serves floors 1-4 (meeting space, pools, etc.) and floors 29-40 (there's a view bar on 40 as well as a few rooms) while the other elevator bank on the Harbor side serves floors 1-4 and the lower room locations.

Breakfast ends at 9:30 weekdays, 11:00 weekends. Every day I saw bacon and some sort of sausage, hot eggs (scrambled plus trimmings to be added), raw ham, smoked salmon, croissants/bagels/bread varieties to be toasted, some cereal, IIRC oatmeal.

Midday snacks from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm weekdays, 11:30 am to 3:30 pm weekends.

Happy hour is from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm every day, with a selection of *free* wine and beer between 5 and 6, followed by the same wine and beer offered in the form of an honor bar from 6 to 9. Each day the food presentation includes a hot protein (cilantro chicken, grilled teriyaki salmon fillet big pieces, chicken putensca, and salmon cakes during my stay), hot mixed vegetable dish, some other cold/salad dish of the day, salad bar including slices of chicken breast, asparagus, olives, etc. with two dressings of the day, and interesting small cakes (cupcakes or pieces) for dessert.

There's a $35 plus tax resort fee (Globs exempt)

- $10 nightly F&B credit - Top of the Hyatt, Brew30, Seaview, Sally's, The Landing

- 24-Hour Fitness Center Access

- Daily 1-Hour Bicycle Usage- Wheel Fun Rentals

- One (1) Kayak or Paddleboard rental per stay

- (1) shoe shine - joey's shoe shine (no boots or suede)

- Premium High Speed Internet

- Wifi in Meeting Space for group events

- 10% Discount on Spa & Salon Services at Marilyn Monroe Spa on 3rd floor of Harbor Tower one visit per stay

- Access to hotel’s recreational courts and equipment, e.g. basketball, volleyball, and games such as giant shuffle board, Jenga, connect four, foosball, corn hole around the pool

- VIP Shopping Pass: Free and discounted items from local shops and restaurants at Seaport Village shopping center located directly outside Seaport Tower

- Rollaway Bed Rental: King rooms only

- Unlimited Phone Calls: Local & domestic long distance

- (1) 1-hr ticket for Harbor Tour per room per stay – Tour is on a modern yacht, 360 views, indoor & outdoor seating, snack bar and full service bar scenic photo opportunities

- One Craft Beer at Brew30 per room per stay

Ten minutes by taxi to/from the airport, perhaps more at rush hour. Fare was under $15 to the far end (DL, AS, UA, etc.) of the newer Terminal 2. Fare from Gaslamp area to hotel is about $7, also assuming no traffic. It's about a 20 minute walk to the Midway Museum and the cruise ship terminal/excursion boat docks.

Both hotels have/can have noise issues from my own experience and what I have heard/read but for many heavy sleepers and those with ear plugs prob no issue
Monday to Thursday may also be quieter but that is a may
We are in high season in San Diego and the downtown will be hopping with young spirits partying all hours of the night. If this matters request the most quiet room possible
July will be crazy - besides Comic Con, the MLB All Star game is at Petco Park this year.

Very true and the costs for a room during Comic Con not affordable for many

The selection process for 2016 was completely different from past years. You had to log in to a website at exactly 9 am on April 5. The system picked people in the queue at random. If you were picked, you then listed 6 hotels in order of preference.

Within 3 days they notified you which of the six you were assigned. So, even if Manchester Hyatt was #1 on your list, you could have been assigned your #6 choice.

BTW - Andaz was the most expensive of all of the official hotels, charging a "discounted" rate of $384 per night.

What happened to the people who weren't picked? Were they assigned to sleep in the street?

No

They were free to book hotels not on the official list. This would mean hotels far from the Convention Center, where the shuttle busses did not run.

I was pretty pleasantly surprised to find an email over the weekend that my one-night P&C award stay for next weekend had "changed" to now include a suite connector. I guess they must have a lot of Signature Suites and Grand Suites due to the convention business, and they had started overbooking the regular King rooms. Still, it was nice that they actually though about who to upgrade instead of just winging it that day.

Is this an upgrade? To me, suite connector means the lock off bedroom that's connected to a suite. It might or might not be an especially nice room. I wouldn't assume that it includes the "parlor" part of the suite.

I've got three nights next weekend booked on a state rate of $125 and DSU'd to a signature suite. I was really suprised to see the property offering state govt rates over a weekend, must be slow. I've only stayed at the andaz in SD, looking forward to giving this property a try.

One suspects that rates can be low here when the hotel isn't hosting a convention. Low rates can also be negotiated for convention blocks during slow periods of the year.

There are now two rooms on my reservation instead of one, and the second one has "suite connector" as an annotation. So that would indicate a regular King room connected to another room that has its own outside door. Given the photos on the web site, I'd guess it's a Signature Suite setup, but whatever it is will be fine given the fact that I'm not spending a DSU on it.

If the reservation lists two rooms, you indeed have a one bedroom suite of the "lock off" variety with separate doors to the hallway and a connecting door between your living room and bedroom. Nice.

They also have some small suites that are just two standard rooms. The living room side has a pullout sofa if I remember correctly. They use to give them on DSUs.

I have booked an upcoming stay, and so far, things are not going well. I will be in San Diego for a week. It's a great opportunity to use a DSU.

Plot twist: to maximum points, I would like to book nights 1, 3 and 5 where I'm the guest, and nights 2 and 4 where my spouse is the guest. Both will be present and both are Diamond.

While you might think that such a transaction is routine, it actually required HOURS on the phone. The issue remains unresolved.

The hotel insists that such a stay requires five DSU's. Also, the hotel said they will render just one combined bill for the five nights. Also, we can choose ONE person to get credit for all five nights. Further, only the primary guest is allowed into the Regency Club, and only on nights when the room is in that guest's name. The secondary guest can be admitted for an additional fee.

As you might guess, I politely declined their offer to fork over 5 DSU's for a 5-night stay, and to pay an extra fee for a Diamond to enter their club.

Bottom line: If I stay five nights, I'm welcome. If I stay 3 separate nights, I'm welcome. If I stay three separate nights, and if my spouse stays two separate nights, and if those stays overlap, we're persona non grata. Fortunately, this problem has an easy solution.

We booked into a completely different property for nights 2 and 4.

Obviously, when a couple books alternating nights into this hotel, it truly and totally pisses them off. I wonder what _else_ pisses them off? To be fair, the above dialogue occurred during a timeframe when the usual staff was likely away on holiday.

I just can't wait to experience this hotel's brand of hospitality.

You mean that you don't get what you want..... and nor should you, the use of a DSU requires the account-holder to have the reservation for all consecutive nights. So the property is right and you are trying to maximize well outside of the GP rules.
Club access for those in the rooms where a Diamond is staying is never an issue...

Hear your frustration and sorry to hear
Congratulations on both of you reaching Diamond status^
This sounds a bit complicated but the way the system is designed or suppose to work is when you make one booking and simply list both names in a perfect world
You can't break up a stay with 1 confirm-able suite upgrade into separate stays that I am aware of as it requires check in and check out and thats not something the system would understand if I have it correct
Which is why you would need additional Diamond upgrades or be requested to surrender per stay
It also sounds like to me there may be some Gold Passport program terms and conditions issues that may actually prevent this

The way to do otherwise might be a simple call by you directly to the front office manager to see if there is a way to accommodate your unusual requests.
I have known nothing but kindness at this property over the past number of years
IMHO it sounds to me as if there was a lot of confusion in your request and the rules are typically followed unless a possible exception is made
with manual interaction to override if at all possible
Have a wonderful time in San Diego.May through September is the best time of the year going on 9 years of living here
Good luck on this reservation!
Cheers
