I am short of 12 nights for the Diamond renewal.

There are the two possibilities:
  • 12 nights in a local Hyatt Place, check-in for 80 $ all in per night = 960 $ for Diamond status + 60 k points (promotion until end of April), or
  • 12 nights somewhere on holidays (cancel Hilton and book with Hyatt) for around 120 $ all in per night = 1440 $ for Diamond status + maybe some promotion or maybe nothing (cannot take holidays before end of April)

What would you do in my situation? I am not really keen of doing some additional holidays because I have actually no time for that.

More info is necessary to determine whether or not switching the vacation is a good option. In addition to the room rate, your opportunity cost would be a factor.

$960 for the Hyatt Place MR option clearly could be a good deal. If you value the status + the 60k points higher than the cost ($960 + opportunity cost), then it makes sense.

Actually, my calculation was wrong, I realized now.

The MR is:
a) 12 x 60 € = 940 $ = Diamond incl 4 suite upgrades + 30,000 points
b) 16 x 60 € = 1,250 $ = Diamond incl 4 suite + 50,000 points

Not such a great deal in my opinion but it would save me lots of time and travelling because I could do it in two check-ins and done.

Background: I have a fast track, 12 nights within 60 days, valid until end of July.

The problem: right now is the weak promotion which gives me 44k points for 16 nights. Maybe there is a better promotion in May, maybe there is nothing. However, it is not sure that I will be able to find 60 € rates in summer near my town.

So my question is for those of you who completed the diamond challenge, did you get an ANOTHER 4 SUITE UPGRADES once you achieved DIAMOND status?

I'm going to be completing 12 nights by April, and I would have used 3 of the 4 upgrades already. I'm wondering if once I receive diamond status, I will get another 4 as part of "achieving" diamond status. What has everyone else's experience been?

No you don't

If you started the challenge before March 1, you would have received 4 upgrades expiring Feb 29, 2012 and then another 4 expiring Feb 28, 2013 on March 1 (the annual renewal date for GP).

If you start the challenge after March 1, you just get 4 upgrades.

Man, didn't even realize that. Guess I applied a couple weeks too late!

I'm going to become SPG Plat solely on the basis of 25 points stays. No dollars spent. Would Hyatt accept my status earned that way as the basis for the Diamond Challenge?

Status is status. How you achieved it shouldn't matter.

As long as you have the required level in your current program for whatever match you're expecting from Hyatt, you should be all set.

I just know you can get top status with PC by redeeming MR points, without ever staying there. Apparently, status earned that way on PC isn't allowed for the Diamond Challenge. I just wanted to make sure that Platinum status based on point redemption STAYS instead of dollars spent on SPG would work.

Matching status

Hi all,

I'm PC Royal Ambassador (PC Platinum as well), I'm going to change my stay from IC to Hyatt. Can I have matching status to Diamond (I'm already Platinum Hyatt gold Platinum member), if so whom I have to contact for that to make it (Phone or e-Mail address)?

You can ask for a challenge. Just email proof of your status to: [email protected]

I got confirmation earlier today for a Diamond Status challenge and I have the normal 60 days to complete it, but my status on my Gold Passport account hasn't change yet. It's only been a few hours, but I'm curious how long it tends to take to change over.

Anyone know the details on this?

I am in the same boat and was told that status does not change until challenge is successfully completed. This is in contrast to a status match, where the status changes immediately.

Please let me know if you are successful in getting your status to change.

That doesn't make much sense. With a status challenge, my understanding is that you get temporary Diamond and all the benefits along with it. How do hotels know you have Diamond if your status isn't set as such?

Also, you're supposed to get the suite upgrades--which I don't see in my account.

Can anyone clarify? I know a bunch of FTers have gone through the process.

I just requested and am starting a challenge... the moment my status with another chain was verified I got (temporary) Diamond status. That was visible in my account before I got the confirmation e-mail the next day.

You even get the 4 suite upgrades, to be used during the 60 day period or after you complete the challenge successfully.
