Why the face? There is a very easy way to secure the suite...pay for it. Until you make Diamond it's perfectly logical that those willing to pay or those that have earned Diamonds already have a shot at "your" suite...

I don't know that this is something to get mad about. You aren't diamond yet, and Hyatt's challenge program is pretty generous as it is (with diamond status and suite upgrades up front).

I'm all for exploiting the benefits of a program to their fullest extent, but expecting all these benefits before being willing to begin the challenge is a bit much.

About to complete my Diamond Challenge this weekend. One suite upgrade already booked for a trip to the Chesapeake resort this summer. It's going to be fun traveling with Hyatt Diamond perks for a while. Even at a business commuter level, there are few hotels that can match the service of a Hyatt Place.

Anyone know if the Hyatt Regency in Austin is a good property for service and location for a leisure trip? Worth the suite upgrade?

Book five suites now at a refundable rate. When you start your challenge, call in and ask to use your Diamond Suite Upgrade on a regular room. If they tell you there's no inventory, cancel your suite reservations and say "Maybe you should double-check that..."

(By the way, Marge, I was being sarcastic...)

Hi, I am new to this program.

May I know how long before the stay can you apply the suite benefit to the booking?

Thanks!

One of the other great perks of FT is that the hotel chains monitor these boards especially the Hyatt representative and now that they know you live near IST they just might notice how you complete these challenges -- esp. since you are telegraphing how you plan to do it.

Lotsa luck in keeping not only the status you hope to earn, but also the points you have thus far accumulated.

Some things are just better left undiscussed publicly, speaking as a member and not forum mod here.

I haven't tried, but I am told you can arrive at the hotel and see the suite before deciding to use the suite upgrade. Of course a suite must be available.

Are there any strategies for maximizing the 60-day time frame? I would have some stays at the beginning as well as the end of the 60-day periods that I'd like to count towards the challenge. So I don't want to start the trial unnecessarily early to give myself more of a chance to complete the 12 eligible nights.

I have a booking starting at a Hyatt in Asia on May 28 (Wednesday) and I'd also like to immediately use one of the suite upgrade certificates.

When should I email Hyatt that I want to start the trial? Or is there any advantage in calling in?

Will they accept instructions by email to apply the suite upgrade certificate and to convert the booking from all points and points & cash? Or will I have to call in for that?

Just plan carefully -- I tried to ask them to retro-active a 5 night stay I had the week prior to my Challenge and they denied me. I ended up completing the challenge regardless and on my way to being a 'proper' Diamond as a result. The Challenge is great and insured my loyalty to Hyatt.

You can begin to use the suite awards (a day or so) after they enroll you in the Challenge. However, I would call them and use your new "Diamond line" to call them -- I've never heard of emailing them to apply the award. Calling is usually painless and much quicker these days (since they don't often have to call the hotel as they had in the past -- although I have had some contact the hotel beforehand (international).

Thanks! I guess I will email them Sunday evening US time. Hopefully that will provide enough time to get the the Diamond Trial started in time and receive the suite upgrade certificates for the first stay that starts on Wednesday.

Do they process the Diamond trial email requests only during regular US business hours?

I guess I don't understand the question. It's really simple; you need to do 12 nights in a 60-day period beginning on when you start your challenge. 60-days is 60-days, so I'm not sure how you can maximize a set time frame.

Presumably you have a better idea about when your stays will occur than anyone here, so just start the trial whenever you think you will have 12 nights in the next 60 days, and if you're close to 12 you can always book the cheapest property nearby to get the extra nights.

What I'm trying to accomplish is two things. I don't want to start the trial unnecessarily early. There is no way to specify a start date for the trial, so I am wondering how long the enrollment takes. Additionally, I would like to use a suite upgrade certificate already for my first stay. So I'm wondering how long the enrollment takes until the Diamond status is correctly reflected and how long it takes before I can use the suite upgrade certificates.

You need to figure it can take a few days for your request, including status in another program and at least one recent stay, is processed. That normally comes after you requesting and them acknowledging a challenge is offered.... The suite upgrades do take another few days to appear in your account AFTER your challenge is approved and your status is changed at that time.

So it's not really realistic to expect you will be able to use that first DSU for 2-5 days after you confirm you want to do the challenge and send them your proof of eligibility. These are processed manually so it's not like there is a fixed timeline, although normally they are processed rather quickly (within a day or so).

And suite availability might not be there as well at that short a notice (DSU's only work when the entry level suite is available).
