I got the Buquebus ferry to Colonia and found it very walkable to/from their terminal (took about 25 min). Not sure if the Colonia Express leaves from somewhere different or not? For flying to/from AEP I got a taxi.

The Barrio Histórico (historic quarter) section of Colonia del Sacramento is designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is a popular tourist attraction for visitors from Buenos Aires, and there is frequent ferry service across the Río de la Plata between the two cities, with fast ferries completing the journey in just 50 minutes. The historical section of Colonia, which has some cobblestone streets built by the Portuguese in the 17th century, is within walking distance of the ferry terminal.

Great to hear, although I think we'll take the taxi down to pier on the outbound since the boat leaves at 9:00 AM and walk back when we return around 5:00 PM - just in time for Happy Hour at the Lounge

I see Travel Line, which is recommended by Frommers, also offers day trips to the delta where you ride around in a boat looking at the delta. That might be more interesting to some people.

So how late do the ferries run? Is it practical to stretch your "day trip" into the evening to experience Colonia after dark, and yet get back to the BA Hilton to sleep that night?

I enjoyed Colonia too - I just walked there from the ferry terminal and had a pleasant few hours before heading back to the car rental to hire a car and drive up to Carmelo - a very pleasant drive and a nice Four Seasons resort to stay in too! There's also a new visitors centre by the ferry terminal which has cheap left luggage - handy if you want to dump your bag whilst off exploring Colonia.

The IOC Holding Meeting at Hilton BA
Just wanted folks to know that the Intīl Olympic Committee (IOC) is holding a significant event here from Sept 1 thru 12. They have upped security (picture ID will be required) and other precautions are in place. The setup with a video wall etc. is pretty impressive. They will announce the 2020 Summer Olympic City winner during these sessions.
Otherwise, the EL selection of foods and drinks is pretty much normal, and scored an excellent room upgrade to the 9th floor with view across to downtown

Nice venue for it, including security (where/how it sits) and modern image. You're lucky to get into the EL, and that room. Not for security reasons, but because of all the VIPs.

Staying here currently. A change I've noticed is that bathroom amenities are now generic instead of PeterThomasRoth: shampoo, cond, hand soap, lotion. Perhaps due to govt embargo on foreign products? Otherwise great staff as usual, EL is ok, upgraded to Exec Suite (again)
