Very excited to head this property in April for 4 nights! My wife is a diamond and it's part of our 4-week Mini-RTW trip... we got great value at 17,500 + $50 USD per night, plus 30% of our points back as part of the promotion.

It's also going to be our delayed honeymoon... fingers crossed we get great weather!

This property is my favorite Category 5 hotel in Hilton Honnors Program. I am not sure if there are any other Conrads that are Cat5, I only know of a couple that are Cat6.

Cheers,

Peter

Front Desk could use some help

I was so excited about my stay at this hotel. This was to be my dream trip. Well turned out not so much.
When I went to check in, I was told that the upgrades I had selected were available. I could pay for a Lagoon room and lounge access. I whipped out my Gold card, and shouldn't it be complimentary? No that's only for Diamonds. I said are you sure because I literally just got an email, ok let he said let me check with my manager. Comes back, ok you can have room upgrade, but no lounge access. I was tired so to me no lounge meant no breakfast. I asked well could I have the lounge access instead of the room upgrade. Again he checked with his manager, ok you can lounge access no room upgrade. Fine.
Then he hands me a welcome lettter, Welcome back to Bali, as HHonors Gold, we have upgraded your room and provided lounge access, seriously? I hand the letter back over, ok ok you have the room upgrade and lounge access.
You would have thought I was taking money out of his pocket.

This just left a bad impression of the hotel on me. On Wednesday, there was a power surge, and my laptop got fried. My fault for not having a surge protector, lesson learned.

Due to illness, I decided to leave a day earlier then planned. I notified the front desk on Wednesday afternoon that I needed to change my airport transfer from Saturday to Friday. At 11.30pm that night, I got a call, asking me if I planned on leaving on Friday, and that since my reservation was prepaid, I could not get a refund. No problem. Not sure why they needed to call in the middle of the night.
And then I tried to check out, really your leaving early? I had to ask for the return airport transfer to be added to the bill, and I had tell the clerk that I was not entitled to a refund of my unsed night. I had a bill of $114 to pay. I tried to apply $100 Hilton Gift card to the balance and the clerk said " You can't use this card, because you owe more then what's on the card" Seriously.

It's nice place, those beach bales were great. But the service at the front desk, left me annoyed enough that I would not likely return again in the future. Aside from the fact, its on the other side of the world.

[QUOTE=jefftiger;17699018]we expect some sun in the mornings/early afternoons during our 7-night stay?

QUOTE]

I was just there for 6 days. It rained almost everyday, but usually during the night or early morning, but 9am it was sunny and beautiful.
Don't the weather scare you away, go and enjoy!

Had a similar experience on staying here a couple of weeks ago. Had to ask lounge access and they made a comment that it was either the lounge access or the room upgrade. In the end, they did decided to give me both (the room upgrade was just to the next level room; I booked the cheapest room).

I go to Bali a few times a year and the rain never bothers me. The sun seems to always come out at some point. The weather reminds me of Hawaii.

My wife and I just returned from a 7-night reward stay at the Conrad Bali. The experience was excellent with only one minor disappointment. I was in contact with the concierge some weeks before arrival to enquire about transportation and airport VIP escort. I booked both through the hotel. The VIP escort through DPS wasn't necessary, but was moderately reassuring. We were handed off to a pleasant Conrad rep who guided us to our car. Cost is somewhat more than a standard taxi, but at $16 still cheap by western standards. The driver was a very pleasant articulate guy who works at the hotel.

On arrival, we were greeted nicely and given a mint ice tea drink. We were upgraded to a deluxe ocean king, not a suite. I really should have enquired about this, but we were so jet lagged that I didn't push it. The hotel was not very busy during the week we were there and I later learned from another FTer who was there on a rewards stay that he was upgraded to a suite. I think that had I asked, we would have likely received an upgrade. That said, the room we were given was perfectly fine with a nice view of the pool (off the central building) and the ocean.

As Diamond members, we had access to the lounge in the suites area, a nice but relatively long walk away. Also, we had access to breakfast and afternoon tea at Rin and cocktails in the lounge. We also received 15% off all restaurant, spa, and laundry expenses.

Breakfast at Rin was outstanding: a choice of several cooked to order options and a full buffet. Staff were always gracious and we got to know a number of them during the week.

We did afternoon tea one day. This too was very nice. Rin has an excellent restful atmosphere.

The lounge at Spice was closed during our stay. I'm guessing that this might be a seasonal thing as we were there towards the end of the rainy season. We ate a few times at Suku and Eight Degrees South. Food at both places was very good. Prices were a bit high, particularly compared to prices outside, but reasonable by US standards.

On the first evening, a very nice cake was delivered to our room in celebration of our 10th anniversary. I had mentioned this when booking transport with the concierge and this was a pleasant surprise.

While there, we hired a driver for two days to see the island. Based on other threads, we booked with Dewa Marco (I've provided a review in another thread). Marco was a personable, excellent guide who accommodated our suggested itinerary. We really enjoyed the two days with Marco and would wholeheartedly recommend his services.

The street outside the hotel, Jl Pratama, is a bit hard to deal with as a pedestrian since the sidewalks are not contiguous and there are many blind curves. It's relatively easy to walk to the ABC minimart for cheap soft drinks or snack foods. There's also an open air stall adjacent to the ABC where you can get a cheap SIM card for your GSM phone. Rates to the US using the Telkomsel Simpati SIM card were incredibly inexpensive using their VOIP access number.

Also recommended is the nearby restaurant, Bumbu Bali. They will provide free transport to and from the hotel, though it wouldn't be a tough walk on the beach path.

This was an excellent stay for us. Everyone who works at the Conrad is unfailingly friendly and welcoming. It was a very restful, fun vacation.

^ for Bumbu Bali restaurant. We went there two times, it is right down the road, enjoyed both of our meals. We also did the cooking school through Bumbu Bali, it was 8 hours long, starting with going to the produce and fish markets, getting the food, then having breakfast, then cooking for 4+ hours, and eating lunch of 20+ dishes that we made. The chef is fantastic, he is Swiss and worked through out the world, settled in Bali in 1990s. I highly recommend this class, both Mrs. PedroNY and I thought it was worth every penny and hour spent.

Best,

PedroNY

We arrived on a Friday around 2:30pm. The arrivals hall was pretty empty on arrival. However, another FTer arrived on Sunday at the same time (Thai air flight from Bangkok) and found a very busy arrivals hall. So, it appears that one's experience will vary depending on the day of the week.

My wife and I just finished a 4-night stay at the Conrad Bali. It is a beautiful resort, and we redeemed points+cash as a Diamond member (my wife, not me). It ended up being $60USD a night, plus the minimal set of points (I believe it was 20,000/night).

We decided to decline the VIP customs service, but take them up on the airport transfer. It worked out being about $7 USD more than taking a metered taxi (take the Blue Bird one that says TAKSI on the top). We were escorted from the exit gate to the waiting car, where we were greeted with floral-smelling cool towels and bottled water. When we checked in, they knew we were celebrating our honeymoon, and had granted our request for an upgrade to an Ocean View Suite (we had emailed the General Manager ahead of time letting him know about our special celebration). Because we had requested the Ocean View Suite in advance, I didn't push for an upgrade to the Conrad Suites section (which has free laundry and dry cleaning!)

The Suite was a huge corner one, with two patios - one overlooking the lagoon and ocean, and the other facing the main pool. We were in Building B, which was well situated between the Main Pool and the Executive Lounge. The "Conrad Suites" section of the hotel is on the far North side of the resort, and that is also where the Executive Lounge is... they have breakfast at the restaurant named Rin downstairs until 11 (buffet and a la carte for some items), afternoon teas from 3-5 (which is really anything non-alchoholic plus a pastry presentation), and a great cocktail set from 5-7 (which is accompanied by delicious canapes that are different everyday). The cocktails are very very well made, and there are 5 new featured ones every day - very delicious! Contrary to what others have posted, we were not allowed to have complimentary alcoholic beverages outside of the 5-7 cocktail hour.

You can also choose to have your breakfast at Suduk (I think that's what it's called), which is the restaurant by the main pool.... it was a larger buffer, and we ate there most days. You can also choose to have afternoon tea and cocktails at the East Bar in the Lobby, which is where those with children are directed (the Executive Lounge is reserved for ages 12+). Given the proximity to the Main Pool and Building B, we tried the East Bar a couple of times... we ended up going back to the Executive Lounge for the remaining times because of some bratty kids (sorry to those with kids heh, but we're kid-free at this point in time!)

The Main Pool was absolutely delightful, and we spent two solid days just camped out beside it... you get wifi access from there too They come by with a basket of complimentary bottled water and a nice spritzer bottle to keep you cool. On the days we ventured out, we used a nice paved beach promenade that takes you all the way to the hotels close to the Bali Collection (a giant outdoor mall) after about 30 minutes if you turn right. You can walk back to the hotel using the road (Pritma I think it's called) and it's a lovely path with greenery that's manicured to perfection... the last 400m has no sidewalk so be careful of the crazy traffic! The village of Benoa is reachable if you turn left on the beach promenade path at the Conrad after about 40 minutes (and the great restaurant mentioned previously called Bumbu Bali is about halfway at 20 minutes away). Taxis are very cheap though, and it cost 5,000 Rp (75 cents) to get to the Bumbu Bali from the Conrad because it was scorching hot that day and we were feeling lazy.

We also got laundry done at Devi Laundry just to the right of the main Conrad entrance... we got charged triple compared to the local prices (saw their price list) but didn't feel like haggling since it was still only $12 for a massive load...

All in all, Nusa Dua and the Conrad Bali was amazing... we will definitely be back, and it was a resort that made collecting HH points and reaching Diamond Status well worth it!

Thanks for the report, slaman! Lady JDiver and I also love this place... and can hardly wait for the Hilton property to open up near Ubud. That will be a double bonus, and I hope we can maybe spend our 50th anniversary there (assuming we last another four years).

For members' reference, so you can click in on slaman's descriptions:

A Hilton property in Ubud?! That would be terrific. My wife and I loved the Conrad Bali. Any timeframe for its opening? I did some Google searches and didn't come up with any info.

A quick Google search revealed

Conrad Ubud Resort and Spa (Q4 2013)

The 80-villa Conrad resort will be nestled in Ubud, the natural beauty and arts center of Bali. Built on a prime hillside above the famous Ayung River, the resort will be located 20 miles from the Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport. At Conrad Ubud Resort and Spa each villa will have its own private plunge pool and the resort will offer two restaurants, lobby lounge, bar, meeting rooms, luxurious spa, health club and multiple swimming pools.
I generally do not put an overly large amount of hope until it gets to opening publicity, as plans change (Conrad Buenos Aires, for example,) but I would love this kind of combination in Bali.

Thanks for the info! I kept typing variants of 'Hilton Ubud' without success. I didn't realize it would be a Conrad property and Google didn't seem to make an immediate connection between Conrad and Hilton family, though it looks like I would have found the link if I had continued to a second page of search results.

This looks like it will be an exciting property, reason enough to return in a few years.
