I do that at any airport area hotel anymore. Even if the weather if fine MX delays happen. A couple months ago I was staying there and got a nice VDB offer to go on a flight at 1 instead of 8 a.m. Was nice to go back to the room and sleep and get some work done before heading back over.

Am on site at the moment. Wow the place is a dump!

3mm layer of dust on pipes and sprinklers. Paint peeling in bedroom and bathroom. Holes in tiles... No Executive Lounge...

Staying in a Runway View Room on 10th floor on a 40k points HH Diamond redemption.

Moving to Westin O'Hare tomorrow. Then I will try the Sheraton on my outbound.

Was that taken with calipers or a drop gauge?

With a metal ruler that is in my briefcase. Not NIST calibrated, I will admit.

It was such a thick layer of fluffy dust I have never seen one this epic before so it activated my curiosity.

Looks like they have some nice advance-purchase rates available now. I just booked a room for $104 a/i (HHonors rate, originally $83 without tax) for an overnight layover I have in late May.

Looking forward to walking to bed and not taking the shuttles for once.

Its a great hotel when you can get it for that sort of rate as the convenience factor after a long day on the road is really nice and its a decent Hilton by airport standards.

How about compared with the HGI down the road? I am looking at a weekend in Chicago and looking at either cash for the Hilton O'Hare or C&P for the HGI O'Hare (where I'm netting ~.6 cpp back for the points, so I'm willing to do that).

The HGI is a little more than down the road from the ORD Hilton. That said I often stay at the HGI if I can't get a good rate at the Hilton. For me, being able to walk across the street from the terminal to the Hilton and back in the morning usually beats having to use a shuttle when the rates are comparable.

Isn't the HGI out in Rosemont down the road from where the Hyatt Regency Rosemont Hilton, Embassy Suites and Doubletree? I am not averse to walking, but that a bit much especially with any sort of luggage, even a small portable office. Sidenote, I have stayed at that Doubletree twice and was very pleased, its a nice airport Doubletree (some are not). The Hyatt Regency is ok, I have though found some of the convention guests at some of the times I have stayed there to be "odd," so much so that I am going to try the Hyatt Rosemont down the road for a night my next trip I need to stay by O'Hare.

The cash rates are about equal, though C&P is always tempting when I can get ~.6 for HH points.

I'm figuring I'm going to be using the shuttle to get to/from ORD.

If your flight isn't really early in the morning, and you are getting a good C+P rate, then go for it. The HGI is across a parking lot from the Rivers Casino. It's a pretty good walk to the Rosemont Blue Line from there (the casino has a shuttle you can take, the hotel shuttle will also take you but they seem to be going back and forth to the airport constantly). The Rosemont DT and Hilton are a little easier walk to the Blue Line (they are located over by the convention center).

I noticed you said a weekend visit, if you are staying for more than one night and will be heading into town then I would check the options in town to see if you can find a comparable rate.

Thanks for the tips. I think what I'll be doing is getting in late at night and spending the night at an airport hotel, then being at a friend's place Saturday after a Cubs-Mariners game, but figured I could spend $40 and some points and not inconvenience him with a trip to O'Hare late Friday night (and not spend a comparable amount of cash on a cab or something like that).

Are upgrades at this hotel fairly standard for elites? I got some decent standby offers but I'd rather chance it for an elite upgrade.
