Does Hertz Staff get incentives if I accept protection plan at the counter?
Hi guys, I was wondering if Hertz staff will get incentives if customer accepts protection plan(CDW/LIS/PIA,PEC,etc) at the counter?
I'm a 5-star member and I buy CDW,LIS,PAI/PEC every time. So I have two options:
1)accept them when I book a car online;
2)reject them when I book a car online, and add them at the counter when I pick the car
If Hertz staff gets incentives for selling those protection plans, why not do them a favor by adding those options at the counter?

I'm not 100% sure about the exit gate agents or the gold desk agents (maybe 99% sure
), but the regular counter agents definitely are on commission. Getting all those coverages at the desk might help you negotiate a nicer car/upgrade.
It isn't unheard of for some of the very best agents at a very touristy airport like LAS to be making well into the $200k range.

They do. They have quotas they have to meet through upsell.
I'm not sure if it changes my location, but there is a certain amount they need to push to customers and if they meet it, they get a % bonus off of whatever they've sold. If they reach a higher level, a higher % is given out of the overall total.
Since my employer pays for my rentals, I'll sometimes let them charge on small things like NeverLost.

I've spoken to some Gold Desk agents at LAX, SFO and ATL and they all have some kind of incentive model based on upsell. LAX seems relatively low on a per week quota basis, but SFO and ATL are significantly higher. But at best, they're making something like 10 - 15% off the total upsell for the week/month with some other quarterly bonuses.
If they're commission + salary pushes them to $200k, I think I may be in the wrong line of work.

The local HLE manager also told me that him/his team receives bonuses for + reviews that you do on the surveys the email you after your rental.

By no means is $200k the norm, but I know that the very best of the best can make that much. Very difficult to get a job and good hours at the regular counter at a location like LAS + somewhat long/irregular hours. If you miss a quota or two they stick you at the exit gate or something like that for a week or two. My cousin made significantly more money as a counter rep than she did as a manager at Enterprise!

it's like saying the guy at bestbuy who sells the most insurance plans is making $150k a year! NO
You would think this bonus plan to be at $200k a year would yield the best ... kissing when you are at the counter. last time I had to use the counter that was clearly not the case!

just look at glassdoor.com. They are hourly, I'm sure their is some incentive plan for up sells but its not going to quadruple their hourly rate.

And in any type of sales jobs, the top performer unfortunately is usually not the friendly one but usually the jerk who tries to scare people into buying insurance or gas or stretching to truth to convince the customer to get an upgraded car. Most of us here don't experience these tactics even the slightest bit because of our membership with Hertz Gold.

Each agent who sells insurance gets a bonus. They also have to meet their % goals (ie 80% upsell). This is called SRPD or something like that. They can make it off PDW, LDW, or FPO (Fuel Purchase Option).
When a branch does well, the manager (salary position) gets a branch bonus. They also look at metrics such as NPS (Net Promoter Score, ie Surveys), revenue growth, fleet growth and etc.
This is only for HLE. Not sure about unionized airport workers.

So basically, if you don't mind waiting in line and taking the time to do your contract manually, by all means do it. We had a 5* at our HLE who always took everything, and we made sure to never pre-print his contract (he didn't care) but to always get him out the door in under a minute after swiping his credit card.
If you're doing this at an HLE, they will LOVE you and you will get preferential treatment every time. I'd always give complimentary upgrades to customers who I knew would be taking extras.

Hertz staff are indeed rated on how many insurance products they can sell at the counter, although I'm told that they're not penalized if your credit card already includes CDW. One of my favorite HLE location agents was fired -- as told to me by another agent -- because s/he (trying to be discreet, here) was not selling enough product.
