Finnair announced an "increase" in Japan traffic as CTS becomes year round from 15DEC2019
Frequency is 2 weekly in wintertime, operated by A330.

KIX gets 2 more weekly depratures starting summer 2020.

If this is true increase in traffic or if there is a reduction waiting to be announced one just doesn't know these days.

What, or rather when, will be the last LHR departure after that?

A pity, although it has always been rather empty I think.

Makes sense. Too late arrival for connecting pax at mindnight wave. AY1338 being widebody makes a later narrow body unnecessary. Only needed for HEL based pax anyway.

Just to clarify, the last flight to LHR is AY1339 at 19:30. But yes the last one to return is AY1338 at 18:10, as stated above.

This is a shame, as some of the SH connection times to make the afternoon AY1337 at 17:00 are quite short. For instance, this past summer schedule the afternoon flight from OUL was scheduled to arrive at 15:30 and therefore connections to AY1337 were not sold. As it stands, it appears that connection is going to be viable in OCT with a 15:20 arrival, but not for summer 2020 where it is back to 15:30. Hope they manage these times to make the connections viable. For what it's worth, AY1341 has always been full when I have recently taken it. Of course AY1342 probably has been less so.

When I go to London for work, I typically would like to have a full day. 1810 return is slightly early. 1600 from the city would already cut it short. Not great from my perspective. I guess I have to start convincing my British colleagues to be in by 0800.

I have quoted in some post that the slots for the mid-morning flight were leased from AA. Now AA needs the slot pair. In this case I prefer ending the evening flight and keeping the midmorning flight. Still, 18:15 is quite early remembering that even BA had a 18:45 (or 18:05 in some seasons) flight.

The midnight wave is definitely getting more popular - during the summer on the nights between Mon/Tue and Fri/Sat there will be 5 long-haul departures around midnight: HKG, SIN, KIX, PKX and HND.

Probably.

Curious to see the schedule, as it could open up new connections for Finns to BA's Carribean network (no LHR-LGW schlep) and of course to AY's Asia network for London based travelers.

That would be fantastic news! I would use it a lot for work, and was just eyeing BA LGW-FNC holiday flights. A bit cumbersome with the LHR connection but HEL-LGW-FNC is something I’d consider.
