LH has huge huge capital in tbe fleet though (most birds are owned, not leased). IIRC finnair too owned its fleet before A333?

They've "always" both owned and leased, at least since the 1990s.

I mean if you are profitable (like LH) you can raise money from the debt or equity markets. Probably preferable to a government bailout that wipes out current equity.

I actually find the situation with lots of pan-European airlines quite interesting. If Norwegian or Ryanair need a bailout and it is decided they should get one, will it be on Norway and Ireland to do it? I know Norway offered Norwegian some credit guarantees already.

For a long time we havent heard plans about Premium Economy.

In 2020 Q1 webcast 29APR20 CEO told that Finnair continues planning and investing in PE but this was the last time something official was said.

I think they put every investment on hold till the future is more predictable. So news on PE maybe in Q3 21.

Been a while since booking new tickets, questions just to get up to speed...if I book a long haul campaign fare can I still choose Y+ seats (for myself and wife on same res) as Plat and check in a bag, in case upgrades would not clear?

thanks!

You can choose Comfort for up to 3 companions on the same PNR, but the checked bag is for member only. Just be sure to select the seats first, then waitlist the upgrade as it is more inconvenient otherwise.

On today's Q3 Webcast CEO Topi updated Eco Premium schedules. It will be released in early 2022.

To be clear, this means that Finnair plans to announce in early 2022 at which point they will launch premium economy on different routes? I don't suppose that premium economy would actually be available in early 2022, do I?

If there ever was a time to smoothly reconfigure cabins across the fleet without removing planes from lucative flying ...

His words in Finnish:
Me myöskin valmistaudutaan siihen että tossa vuoden alkupuolella niin lanseerataan Premium Economy -matkustusluokka joka on olennainen osa tätä modernin laatulentoyhtiön kokemusta
We are also preparing for the launch of the Premium Economy class at the beginning of the year, which is an integral part of this modern quality airline experience.

This could mean that eg in February they show renderings and give some general info about the concept, which will then start in, say, October to NRT or whatever.

With all the cuts and downgrades, I fear that PE will mean that Y will become more miserable than it is now.

I wonder if they will give any PE vouchers for status members. Or like Comfort seats are free for platinum right now.

The probability that Platina customers can upgrade to PE for free is 0%.

The only question is how business upgrades, with points and with voucher, will or will not evolve.
