That's my take too.
From reading his blog he seems focused only on the mechanics of travel (flights, hotels) and the service he receives. What the reader doesn't read about is whether he takes a moment to leave luxury hotels and experiences the culture, language, and "vibe" of the locations he visits.
So the lack of cultural perspective mixed with a "what can you do for me?" attitude in a seemingly shallow, humorless, and remarkably fragile individual does not make for a very fulfilling read. I sometimes visit his blog for ideas on how to maximize points but generally avoid everything else.

I think she sounds great fun! Personally I couldn’t give a monkey’s if I’m handed my gin or given it on a tray. I particularly like her responses, “Bread” and “Oh is that what that is?”. Hope she’s on my flight next week. Stirling woman. Sounds a hoot!

I find his reviews broadly fair and believable in general.
NB: I couldn't give a toss how it's funded. Some of you care too much.

As the complexity increases, it seems very promising. I frankly don't have the time or need to want to f around with the complicated and archaic award booking systems, so when I say 'I have miles with this program, that program, and those programs, find me Biz to Europe in June, here's $150' it's well worth it. Time is money, especially when you are self employed and there is a list of about 1000 things I'd rather be doing than dinking around with award charts.

It's also that people MUST have
- creative routing
- try aspirational products
- fly counter clockwise to destination
- add more then 1 flagshiplounge
- grab aminety kits of only the highest grade
- final hoorah first class only
Last week i thought: "do i want to schlepp my family on above the Hobby rules?" Nah, so i just booked via lufthansa miles and more online award booking the award tickets for a simple AMS-FRA-MIA almost a year in advance and i feel happy because of the simplicity
