Was kinda expecting it, with expertflyer showing heavy seat occupancy in Y and light in J, with zero in F, and Y selling out for 3 days two weeks prior to the flight with avaliablity opening up in Y right until the date of flying.

In the end not a seat left in J cabin, not sure how many were in F.

Was quite nice to have after just having done a 16 hour in Y LAX-DXB with an 8 hour transit prior.

Wonder why you are slugging it out in Y to PVG from the other side of the world....

Had called the call center a day earlier asking to upgrade with miles and the person told me I could only upgrade at the counter, he mentioned that I should be getting a free upgrade as Y was oversold and I was the only Gold in that flight.

The counter staff informed me that EK had changed the aircraft A330 from 2 class to 3 class and due to very low sale on J tickets, all J class will be upgrade passengers and service will be from Y. All in all - decent seat with Y service (a bit weird)

Yes, and when we got down at DXB, they stopped people from boarding the J class bus to the terminal. So all in all - J class seats and real Y class services.

Was on a EK385 BKK-DXB the other day, 20 Y-J op-ups, 10 J-F op-ups, 10 or so denied boarding... During runway works it will be worse: they were op-uping down to Silvers, so probably a good route if you like the op-ups...!

Just to clarify, the J cabin was sold as Y and the F cabin was kept as J? Was anyone moved from Y to "J" i.e. the F cabin?

This happens often enough ex KHI too, F becomes J and the J cabin becomes part of the Y cabin.

Comments: Overfull plane in Y and J it seems, so several of us were moved to F. Full F service for the sub-one-hour flight, with full F wine list and full F dinner menu, despite it being the last flight of the day, at nearly midnight.

While checking in I asked if I could get seat 6A or 6K. Was told that no seat was available on this flight other then my preselected one since J is overbooked. I was asked if I would like to use miles to upgrade to F and I declined stating I would rather hope for an opup. The checkin agent said let ne request that for you. She called someone and said to place me on the opup list.

Got my J boarding pass and proceeded to the lounge. When boarding was called the person infront of me got told that you requested for an opup and it cleared. He was upgraded to F. At my turn I was told the same thing and upgraded to F. Is this something new now?
