Upgrade Given: Y-J

Upgrade location: Check in

Route: BKK - HK

Flight number: EK-384

Type of ticket: Saver Y

Date of travel: 22/08/2013

Tier status: Gold

Tier miles to date: 15000 approx

Skywards miles balance:20000 approx

Number of pax on the same PNR: Single

Skywards DOJ (approx): 2005

Last Name begins with: M

Comment: Y full a long time before departure date so I thought id get upgraded. On the HK - BKK route they have increased the J fares by 30% and the F fares by 60% over the past couple of years whilst keeping the Y fare competitively low filling the Y seats with groups of mainly mainland Chinese tourists. I used to buy J or F seats on this route but they are now too high and because there are not many status passengers in Y, I often get upgrades on this route anyway.

just curious regarding this: Lots of friends have received opups Y to C on KUL-DXB, en-route to LHR/MAN (no opups on DXB-LHR/MAN AFAIK). all are just students with no status/skywards blue. already 5 that I know of this past week. Just a case of Emirates being really generous?

I've seen this happen quite a few times ex SIN as well (to MEL). My simple take on this is that the staff are working hard to get the flight out and often will take the closest to them to op-up. Often students are at the airport early, have backpacks which many do not require checking in, so they are easy to deal with.

that sounds quite plausible... unfortunately I am a loyal SQ flyer...but maybe not for any longer should EK continue to be as generous

Upgrade given Y - J

Upgrade location Lounge

Route CMB DXB

EK651

7th Sept

Saver

Tier status me gold wife blue

Tier miles to date 86k 15k

Skywards miles 270k 89k

No of pax 2 (separate PNR)

DOJ Skywards 2010

Last letter of surname H

We had checked a few days prior to check in and knew the flight was overbooked by 13 in Y. Nothing was mentioned at check in but my wife is a pretty nervous flyer so she decided to ask the lady at the lounge counter how their upgrade process worked. She said there was a process but before she said what it was she said OK that's you both into business so she wasnt too bothered about what the process was!

Tickets were booked separately under diff PNRs but we had called to link them together as soon as we booked.

Wife was very happy as her first upgrade even though its just a short flight which makes an easy life for me!

All the best. On my last JFK-DXB flight, it showed F4 A0 but no opup as F went out full due to few people in J using miles for upgrades.
