I have heard Brussels is not high up on the list for EK, but rather a Berlin is when the new airport opens... even though EK has 4 cities already in Germany. I'd think somehow, the powers to be at EK will somehow make a 5th destination possible. Always amazes me how things can go EK's way when push comes to shove.

I have to think ORD to be next but maybe not this year. Not many have mentioned ATL.... A colleague of mine tells me every flight he gets on between the two cities is 100% full... each time.

Detroit would be a great addition as Dearborn, MI as I understand, has the largest Muslim population in the US.

Phoenix, Vegas? Would love to see this but can't see the EK connection or big draw from the Subcontinent passengers.

Orlando? My first impression was no way... no biz traffic. However, those who've been to Dubai you know that it's a very youthful city and when I've been there, I see so many kids that a Disneyworld flight could be a distinct possibility.

Boston? Yep... probably just to compete or beat QR to the destination.

With the UAE/Canada relations on a seemingly warmer tone lately, wonder if some destinations in the great white north are not far off.

Berlin is definitely high up on the list, they'd probably launch tomorrow if they could but LH is lobbying hard to stop that.

No news about South America. It may take a year or 2 before something is added there.

I don't know about DPS but I hear another popular island resort will get a direct flight from DXB in 2012

Interesting. Réunion would actually be a great move or Fiji via BNE.

I don't think Berlin will come anytime soon.
If the German government acted fair, EK would launch it overnight but today in the NEws LH CEO said that the airlines existence is under threat from arabs and he wants to government to stop them.
Welcome to nanny land.

HKT?

Europe:
Brussels, Stockholm and Oslo without question.
Berlin is certainly high up the list, but in relation to previous posts and EY's position there, may be more difficult.

N. America:
Chicago definitely.
Can't really see much else in USA for now other than possibly MIA, but even that isn't something I would bet a lot of money on.
With warming of UAE-Canada aviation relations, can see more services to Toronto, and possible launch of Vancouver and maybe Montreal or Calgary. Don't want to bring back the few pages old debate of Canada flights via scissor hub.
Maybe MEX?

Not much else in S. America ... for now...

Africa:
Abuja definitely. May also make a move elsewhere, not really sure about this continent.

Asia:
Stopping services to Phuket and Denpasar.
Non-stop to Taipei.
Room for Hanoi? Probably not daily, but otherwise?
More for China.
Either Goa, Amritsar or Chandigarh in India. Maybe not daily either; they would only be able to provide daily as yet with a narrowbody, but they don't have any of those, do they?

Oceania:
Adelaide

With all due respect I think it that it won't be in CENTRAL Asia. :p http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ce...jection%29.svg

I suppose you are either referring to South Asia, Southeast Asia or the Eastern Asia (as defined by the UN). In this case my guess would be Phuket for sure. However I presume that you wanted to say Eastern Asia (as opposed to Southeast Asia) which keeps me puzzling... The only destination I can think of is Haikou (this would be a real stunner, but there won't be enough capacity to fill more than an A332 twice a week).

Amritsar would be the best fit for Emirates despite the fierce competition - however the decisive factor for growth in India is the bilateral agreement restricting the number of seats between the UAE and India.

Which destinations in China are they looking at?

Mirko Mar 17, 2012 5:35 pm

Now that Italy is becoming EK's 3rd market in Europe with 8 daily flights (just behind Germany with 9 daily, UK with 16 daily).......is there enough room to add one more city by 2013?
I mean, 1 daily A332 to Bologna or Naples for example.

sadiqhassan Mar 17, 2012 6:04 pm

EK's strategy seems to be go big or go home.

If it can't fill a daily 332, it probably won't be too interested.

I can't remember the last route that was started with fewer than 7 x weekly services (OK I lied, it was BSR but before that I don't remember.) There are a few routes served with fewer than 7 weekly flights but not many.

The ones I can remember are:

1. Toronto due to lack of choice
2. Sanaa, Yemen
3. Basra, Iraq

Add Peshawar to that list - 3x(2x772,1x332).

Those aren't islands! How about Cebu, if not Phuket? There's Langkawi in Malaysia but I doubt that's a big enough market (or has an airport that can deal with a widebody).
