The interesting part of this article are the US cities chosen for recruitment drives.... Perhaps a possible indicator of future routes.... ;)

Emirates currently employs over 700 Americans at operations throughout the world, and anticipates hiring more than 4,000 cabin crew and 500 pilots globally this year. So far in 2012 alone, the airline has recruited cabin crew talent in Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and Washington D.C and will be holding a recruitment day in Seattle in March. Emirates will be holding pilot recruitment drives in Atlanta and New York over the coming months.

Apparently, EK are also looking at BOS, IAD, ATL, DTW and and PHL.

Looks like IAD is the next US destination for EK.

http://gulfnews.com/business/aviatio...ngton-1.989237

If Shaikh Ahmad says its high on the list its probably the next destination to be announced. But I think its right in saying that if its announced sooner than later it probably won't start within the next six months. But looks like a great idea to put competition on the soon to become EY route to AUH and the existing UA route to DXB. Maybe ORD was next on the list, but EK herd that EY was going to announce IAD so thats why they've delayed the announcement and therefore EK is going to announce IAD to put direct competition on EY.

Another good article discussing the B777NG and the A350. But it also says,

The sheikh said the airline is filling 85 percent of its seats out of Dallas since that route opened and will add two more U.S. gateways by the middle of next year
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm..._boeing03.html

Looks like both ORD and IAD by Summer 2013? So should we speculate that IAD may get a launch sometime late 2012... whilst ORD maybe this time next year or a little later? Generally when EK talks about expansion plans they always talk about it in-terms of 'fiscal year' of which operates April-March each year.

Unfortunately, this is a misguided analysis of the article. The Sheikh didn't say Washington, DC was high on the list, he simply said it was ON THE RADAR. ORD, ATL...etc. are all on the radar. Everything is still up for grabs.

But hey, I'm not going to complain if EK starts flying to IAD. I'll finally get a chance to try it!

Exactly! It will get more tougher compeititon against EY & UA. I don't think gonna happen. Maybe ORD or IAD is still on the list. EK will decide to choose for which the specific route is that. I'm pretty confident about ORD will be there. If the fare is getting little bit more expensive. It will gonna to get more tougher competition.

EK have just announced 3rd daily to FCO from Oct.

delta154 Mar 12, 2012 5:45 am

Rome FCO to go to 3x Daily on 1/10/12

EK 099 DXB-FCO 0315 0735 - A332
EK 100 FCO-DXB 1120 1910 - A332

Also, new USA route to be announced 'imminently'

blackmamba Mar 12, 2012 8:22 am

ORD or IAD? I'm taking bets.

And oh, they're thinking of advertising in 2013 Superbowl? I wonder what that commercial will be like.

MucEKPer Mar 12, 2012 11:07 am

Rome seems to have gotten some serious capacity increase.
From 2 Daily 777 to 1 332, 1777 and 1 A380 in such a short time.

Is MUC up to get a 3rd Daily in 2013?

Any thoughts?

Maybe they will considering to ORD or IAD. That's will be a logical choice. My guess will be IAD. It will get more tougher competition against EY, UA. I doubt it if they will expected to be announced.

Yes, very soon. EK will have choose for which the specific routes. I think EK will goes IAD and later on, EK will able start direct flight DXB-ORD. Maybe EK will deployed the 77W aircraft first and later in the future EK will able upgrade the equipped from 77W to A380.
