Well that was unexpected! What is even more remarkable is this marks the first time a Europe flight leaves from the morning departure bank and does not return into the midnight arrivals bank but rather uses the early morning arrivals window.
I think the flight will do extremely well. Not surprised if there is a quick equipment upgrade, or an additional flight. OPO next please. Regarding the timing it may be part of Emirates strategy for the destination markets ex-LIS. e.g. LAD connection would be possible without overnight. I'm quite curious to see the initial price offers for LAD, GRU and GIG (the QR 400 EUR deals ex-Spain to GRU/EZE come to mind) GBM GBM |
The aircraft for the new LIS service seems to be sourced from the LCA-MLA service, which, contrary to earlier plans, will not upgauge to B772ER equipment, but rather operate with its current A332 equipment through the summer.
Currently EK0107/0108 DXB LCA MLA is planned to upgauge to A343 equipment for the winter and then likely to transition into B772ER once the A343 will be retired from the fleet. At that point, LIS should become a B77W destination. |

Also, EK really needs an additional flight to feed into the 1 - 3am departure bank. So far there is only EK002 as EK030 comes in too late and EK008 is really a bit early. I could see a schedule along the following lines for EK's 6th daily LHR service: EK031 DXB LHR 0645 1030 EK032 LHR DXB 1230 2315 The main problem will of course be obtaining suitable LHR slots. |
A380 ops to bne
EK will introduce the A380 on EK406/7 DXB-MEL-DXB in October as previously announced.
What are the plans to introduce the A380 to BNE. Have heard the possibility of putting onto EK432/EK433 DXB-SIN-BNE-SIN-DXB, as capacity needed out of SIN on this flight (first "daytime" flight ex SIN to DXB and Europe) ... or would they put it on EK434/5 and continue on to AKL as they do now ex SYD, and MEL when it comes on line. The lounge there was built for an A380 so EK obviously have plans to put it in there at some stage ? Also wheres Emirates777 these days on this forum?? Best all |
As, currently announced A380 flights account for 24 aircraft, but EK will operate up to 31 A380s by year's end, I think we are in for a round of new A380 route announcements, but in case of BNE, wouldn't the more popular nonstop be the first candidate for capacity upgauge if and when the BNE route were to receive such an upgrade?

Does this mean we can expect to see trans Atlantic flights via London being operated by Emirates and/or Etihad and perhaps new route introductions to the UK by AirArabia, FlyDubai or RAK Airways? :D UAE updates Air Services Agreement with UK (WAM) 15 February 2012Dubai - The United Arab Emirates represented by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has signed an air services Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) updating the Air Services Agreement (ASA) with the United Kingdom in London. The Agreement was initialed by Omar Bin Ghaleb, Deputy Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Mark Bosly, Head of Aviation Negotiations at the United Kingdom Department for Transport. Representatives from Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Sharjah Department of Civil Aviation, Ras Al Khaimah Department of civil Aviation, Etihad Airways, Emirates Airline and RAK Airways attended the negotiations. The existing bilateral framework allows full flexibility on the routes, capacity, number of frequencies, types of aircraft and allows for specific fifth freedom rights. Fifth Freedom Rights, as defined by Wikipedia is as follows: the right to fly between two foreign countries during flights while the flight originates or ends in one's own country Example Toronto - Chicago - Mexico City, as a Canadian company |

I have heard that Emirates have studied the possibility of DXB-MAN-LAX/SFO for the A380 ops, due to the A380 not being able to make it without a payload restriction, but do not know what came of it? |
