Dinner was a chicken burrito dish at 'Chuy's' on the Country Club Plaza in KC/MO. I went with a friend before we saw the Trans Siberian Orchestra and I was pretty disappointed. The waitstaff was sub-par, did not offer refills and smelled like burnt marijuana. When you order an entree, I learned you can choose which sauce you want on the side and chose a red pepper sauce. The waitress didn't bring it when I got my entree and claimed they were still warming it up and asked if I wanted something else. I chose another sauce, which was decent (though a bit salty). When my bill came, I didn't realize I got overcharged for my sauce by a few bucks. We were never offered refills and the waitress just wasn't very friendly. The burrito wasn't much better than something you could get in the freezer section..
I wouldn't return. I do have family members that dislike Chuy's, so I definitely wouldn't say it's the best restaurant. But, it works well for my taste buds, and my stomach expects it ;-) |

FriendlySkies This is so funny - I did a double take seeing this picture. Whenever I'm home, I pretty much eat Chuy's every day as I miss Tex-Mex so much during my travels. I always order the fajita chicken quesadillas with no peppers and onions and asked for them to be cooked extra crispy. I've found that there is substantial difference in the locations in my city on how crispy they cook the tortillas, and ironically, the location I grew up going to most frequently is the location that cooks their tortillas the crispiest. As a result, that's the location I frequent despite being a further drive.

Novy, SF:
chicken wrap with garlic fries and extra salsa verde - the green sauce was creamier than before. I’ve never seen garlic fries on the menu before and I was last here with book club in October. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...781551000.jpeg |
I haven’t been to Chuy’s in ages. I visited a friend in Houston back when we were in College and she took me there for the margaritas. But only the margaritas, for Tex mex food it was Ninfas or Taco Cabana. Or Pappasito’s. I’ve been wanting Tex-mex for a while and we have Chuy’s here…

Dinner last night with my parents at P.F. Changs in the Denver suburbs (Lakewood).
We started with the pan fried shrimp dumplings which were good, though a small portion. We then shared the kung pao chicken, pepper steak, stir fried eggplant and chicken with broccoli. https://photos.smugmug.com/FlyerTalk...IMG_0743-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/FlyerTalk...IMG_0744-L.jpg |
Lobster, crab, mac+cheese, sourdough and a really nice white cote du Rhone. Now sipping a Cognac while contemplating a few pieces of chocolate or maybe a Christmas cookie.
Merry Christmas everyone. |

A simple version of a Panamanian Christmas Eve dinner. From top left: raisin rice, roast pork, ham, potato salad with apples. I was feeling ever so slightly hungry and I reheated so I could post this here. In hindsight this was a lot of carbs and pork to eat so late at night. Missing are the sweet plantains and egg bread wreath we had earlier. Other elements, like turkey and tamales, are missing. But my family was determined to learn to make the egg bread so the menu was lean. Merry Christmas! |

King crab has been in very short supply this year (thanks, Russia). I looked at Costco a few days ago & it appears that they have had to downgrade a little compared to what they used to carry. I think they used to have jumbo but these looked like large. I went to Bristol Farms (fancy grocery) yesterday and they had colossal....boy were they ever. These were the biggest I have ever seen and really sweet. I couldn't even get my crab crackers around most parts. Its Christmas so worth the splurge. Of course with garlic butter and lemon.

Dinner at the DEN Amex CL was a Caesar salad, beef curry and a pork tenderloin. Photos when we land! Dessert was a lemon bar and a Oreo cookie bar.

Christmas dinner. I bought a 4.25 pound tenderloin. I removed the tail and cut into steaks for later. I grilled the thick end as chateaubriand. Seasoned with black pepper and a combination of sea salt and black garlic. I rarely use indirect heat and was caught off guard when it took 45 minutes to reach120° internal temp. Instructions I had read led me to expect 20 minutes cooking time after searing on all 4 sides. Everything else was ready early. But I did achieve perfect rare beef. Overcooked broccoli, but awesome mashed red potatoes with lots of sour cream, butter and mushroom gravy. |
Dinner at Pujol. Excelente.
