Ugh...can't stand that smell. It is the actual process of having to remove shelves and drawers and clean everything. Activated charcoal helps with any residual odor. But as I said, I am not making that mistake again.

Winn Dixie periodically offers a 1.5 lb frozen bag of 20/30 for around $19. They skew to medium sized but taste fine. The only problem is I forget that the bag isn’t completely sealed when I thaw them and end up with a mess in the fridge.

Depends on the layout of the fridge. When something like that happens to me (would have to be an old fridge as all the current ones here have solid shelves) I find pouring a little baking soda over what I can of the spill itself, wait a few hours for it to absorb any liquid and then with a paper towel or two at the bottom, chase the spill with a bit of warm water. Most of the time this works for me. When it doesn't, I repeat it again and that usually fixes the issue.

Scallop stir fry.[/QUOTE] Looks good! Is Winn-Dixie actually marketing these as sea scallops? They’re definitely not. They are bay scallops. |

My fridge is fairly new (solid shelves) but if a liquid leaks out it surely gets a chance to drip down to the bottom. And fish smell is the worst. I am not talking about a small spot...scallops and other fish let go of a lot of liquid when thawing.

So if that's the case, I'd invest in some larger "deep plates". I sometimes use them if whatever I'm thawing has liquids that might leak out, It's rarely fish, but you'd be surprised how much blood some meats still have.

agreed. That's how this all started. It is a discussion about forgetting to put a dish/tray under a plastic bag when thawing.

I don’t recall the package saying either. I looked at the sea scallops in the freezer. I believe they are U15. And $30 a pound.
