Carved up a Whole Prime Tenderloin a little earlier so as per usual tonight is Steak Tartare and since I currently have Remy XO on hand, that was the Cognac component (and if you ever make Steak Tartare, which has a lot of different potential variations, adding Cognac is definitely worth it). Paired with a 2022 Kirkland Gigondas. Sidenote, this may not look like much, but it’s delicious if you really like tenderloin and it’s incredibly filling and a ton of protein especially with the raw egg yolk adds a ton of those B vitamins et al that are on the list of supplements nowadays.

That evening, I think the college BB I was watching was Kansas/Texas Tech and UNC/Syracuse. I watch a lot of college BB. Was at the Virginia/Pitt game on Tuesday and will be at the Miami game in two weeks when the Tony Bennett Court Dedication takes place. However, tonight watching hockey over dinner - Panthers/Lightning (soo looking forward to Olympic Hockey!!!)

Last night I drove my son to his buddy’s at 9p as today was yet another school holiday… sigh. Due to distance I decided to eat a late second supper before fetching him around 11p.
sichuan home, Geary blvd, sf:
white rice
mapo tofu with pork
eggplant with pork (I’ve had this as Cantonese cuisine and this version had crispier eggplant.
excellent spice and definitely delicious. It’s also less easy to find this eggplant dish at most restaurants. This is probably one of the best Sichuan mapo tofu dishes I’ve had. I need to eat here more often as I think this was only the 4th time I’ve been here in my life.

That looks like a heavily sauced version of "fish fragrant eggplant" (鱼香茄子 / Y xiāng qizǐ). Pretty simple dish to make...https://omnivorescookbook.com/sichuan-eggplant/

I think the last time I had it was in Davis, but I can't remember the name of the place. 🤦♀️

Dinner at Strip House midtown on Friday night to celebrate the birthday of a great friend/FTer.
The meal started with a great sazerac and a nice bottle of red wine brought from Sonoma. We were soon offered very fresh and hot pretzel rolls which were delicious. For our group of five, we shared some oysters and a burrata. Next, four of us shared the 60oz tomahawk steak cooked to a nice medium rare. The crust was seasoned with salt and pepper. Sides included asparagus, creamed spinach, brussels sprouts and potatoes with goose fat.
Dessert included an excellent chocolate cake, cheesecake, chocolate ice cream and key lime pie.

Takeout China Garden restaurant Leesburg, FL. Roast Pork with Snow Peas was outstanding. Bourbon chicken was dry and had an off taste.

Tonight’s Prime Ribeye with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies paired the remaining Margaux from yesterday. On a side note, Pip has been feeling so much better (and a LOT more mobile) after ten days of meds that I had to actively defend my dinner tonight once I started slicing up my steak (and yes, she did get some inside pieces with no seasoning)

While at Sprouts earlier, they had make your own pizza kits on sale for $3.50 which came with a 12oz of dough, marinara sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese. I added some extra hot red pepper flakes from Penzey's, along with some black olives, and let it bake for twelve~ minutes in the toaster oven. This really exceeded my expectations and I'm now wishing I'd picked up the other pizza kit they had available!
