Eric's was my first Chinese meal in SF after moving here in 1998.

Good to see it's still going strong.

It’s been cool and drizzly today so I made a pot of pea soup with ham. But we snacked all afternoon so neither of us wanted any.

You’ve mentioned Bay’s English muffins a few times. Is this product unique to the southeast. How does it compare to Thomas’s? It’s either Thomas’s or a store brand around here.

Not unique to the southeast. Gaobest eats them out in SF. Until you asked, I didn’t realize the company is from Chicago. Bays.com for a look. I have seen them in 4 varieties. The sourdough has too much salt for me and the wheat version is too bland. Regular and raisin styles are what I like best and I think they’re much more flavorful than Thomas. They are also very unlike Thomas in that they are pre-sliced. So, the inside surface is much smoother. Since I often cook them in a frying pan, I don’t miss the “nooks and crannies”. I also rarely use butter. I do buy Thomas for the specialty versions like blueberry and corn but Bays is my regular English muffin and I probably eat a hundred a year, maybe more.

Speaking of corn and blueberry, I sure do miss the old Howard Johnson’s corn and blueberry toastees that we used to find in grocery store freezers. Long gone but a great breakfast option.

There's been discussion of Bay's in a couple of the food threads.

BamaVol, I'm not certain what a toastee is, but if it's a dense but not too sweet thing, look for Thomas's corn toast-R-cakes. They are favs of mine, but I've only ever seen them in the northeast.

Safeway and target in San Francisco have bay’s. it’s more expensive than Thomas which is sold at Costco.

Thought of you today at Home Depot where they were selling flats of purple baby bok choi in the garden center. I may buy a flat after I’ve harvested mine, which will be as soon as I get back from Alabama next year.

I bought Bays on sale at WinnDixie last week. They were two packages for $5.00. Thomas’s seem to run $4.29-4.89 a package but I don’t buy them unless it’s BOGO so I guess comparing sale prices here, they’re about the same. I think the regular price of Bays is $3.49.

Making pickle-buffalo hybrid chicken tomorrow. Ran out of pickle juice so filled the rest with hot sauce. Will see what happens.

Dinner tonight was grilled shrimp with grilled vegetables and brown rice. Lunch tomorrow will be grilled flounder with the same sides.

In my quest to clean out my "prepper's pantry" as well as some of my freezer (and to see if my convection oven still works)... impromptu sheppard's pie (instant mashed potato, ground pork, frozen vegetables (beans, peas, carrots and corn) and a whack of spices from my spice rack)...

Kinda burnt the top of the sheppard's pie, but was still edible and freed up some space for other goodies.

I picked up some hot & sour soup while I was out. Also got some berries and cucumbers and low-cal ice cream, which I will have tomorrow.
