Damn that looks good uk1, and you posted it just when I'm starting to get hungry for lunch too!
I don't think any of those meals was over £2:50 ie $S5. Can't wait for the next trip in January. |

I'm drooling too. With all of the hundreds of different hawker plates available, your photos are all among my top 10-20 favorites. Did you make it to Whampoa this time?
No, that area specifically .. although we found ourselves unexpectedly in a number of outlying areas. As it was the Hungry Ghost festival I had many hotel people on "stage alert". If they heard or saw a stage being built during the festival that was close to an MRT then off we'd go and take a look. Hawker food outside main areas, often close to an MRT seems to be of a nicer quality. It was great seeing the workers stop off at stalls to collect their evening meal. Next visit we are going to take a few MRTs at random and just explore. I also tried a lot more stuff I've not tried before - escpecially stuff I thought I might dislike - just to see. A real Foody Safari and everyone is so welcoming and friendly. The satay was the only "expensive" meal. 40 mixed sticks ie beef, chicken, pork and duck for $S24 (ie £12) and a jug of Tiger for $S17:50 ie £8.75 at Satay Street - Lau Pa Sat. Already looking forward to our next visit, and I can't get the satay off my mind. A bit of a tradition to head straight to Satay street on the first night. :) |
Went to Fishmonger's today, a local seafood joint. Had a softshell crab sandwich. They brought me a plate with the bun, lettuce, tartar sauce and fries and the crab on a second plate. Only half the crab fit on the bun ^

Thanks. To be honest it isn't the camera or me ... it is genuinely the food that makes itself attractive.:) Doesn't it just say ...."eat me! ... eat me! ... eat me!...

Usually breakfast scramble for me today: eggs, cheese, sausage, pepper, seasoned salt in a tortilla with hot salsa ^

I haven't been to Raleigh in about fifteen years, but have recently met a couple of people from there talking it up. |

Are there a few Mexican abarrotes, err grocers in the Raleigh-Durham area? Harris Teeter and the usual would have these products too, but I'm curious.

Last night, two haddock in batter fishfinger sandwiches -one with Heinz tomato sauce, the other with taretare sauce. Bottle of bone dry sauvignon.
This is one of our favourite meals. |
Today .... I (we) have been eating ....
Street pizza. My entire village has been transformed into a street fest, complete with a bandstand across the street. Whole house is currently shaking to "Highway to Hell"
|
For breakfast, I made a bacon, egg (over easy) and sharp cheddar cheese sandwich on a buttered, toasted La Brea sandwich roll.
