I got fed up with getting up and down for the bottle opener!
Well done. ^ They are boquerones. Marinated anchovies. With home made/baked bread. Of course. |

I would have thought someone imports them. If you can get the standrd rown ones in jars. then you may find them. "White anchovies" people often call them. They are a bit like herrings but sweeter and nicer.

The variety of fish and seafood is not only woeful it's also very expensive.....and what there is mostly comes frozen. Merluza (Hake) is the only fish readily available. Strange when you think of the massive coastline the country has. Some decent frozen prawns can be got but they come already cooked. I nearly wet my pants when I saw smoked salmon (Scottish style) in the freezer cabinet at the supermarket. Pretty decent it is too. I think hake might smoke well but I've still to get around to doing that....as I do miss my pale smoked haddock. |
Talking about smoking .... I've found a supplier in the UK that sells a whole range of fruit woods. I've been buying old Spainish vine wood for the beehive. Lovely flavour to chicken with lemon and thyme and braised peppers and onions.
You're lack of supplies makes me feel very fortunate here in the UK with Ocado and the range of stuff. |

ETA: A couple of years old so don't know if the situation has reversed.... Fish exports have overtaken the more traditional beef exports, which reflects the rapid decline of the farming sector in recent years. The latest figures seen by the BBC show that during the first quarter of 2011 Argentina exported more than 145,000 tons of fish and seafood, double the amount of beef sent abroad during the same period of time. |

A sort of home made Chicken Jerk .. or is it Tandoori?! Chicken Samosas, Onion Bhajis, Raita, lovely pillau made with slow baked peppers and onion, nuts sultanas and garlic. Paulaner beer ... and todays home baked peasant French loaf. This was started three days ago and so has a bit of character. A cosmopolitan mix. :) |

A cosmopolitan mix. :) My wife is making pasta at the moment for tonights dinner. I'm not a great fan of pasta but make an exception after she's gone to so much trouble. http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps84c5137c.jpg |
That pasta looks nice. What sauce?
|
A basic frozen one made from our own tomatoes with chopped onion.
She's on a roll now....the bread maker has made an appearance after months of being in a cupboard. :D I'm about to make my lunch.....curried fried potatoes and onion with maybe a fried egg. |
Tonight I made doorstep sliced ham, Thai fishcakes with a cheesy middle, angel hair pasta with grated Parmesam, Romaine lettuce doused in olive oil, balsamic vinegar and roasted garlic, and toasted garlic buttery pitta bread.
If I was single again that meal would definitely get me IT. |

Another stonkingly hot day and eating outside..... http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps29013402.jpg She was hot and sticky today, so I made her a nice summery salad, of Smoked Test Trout and Charlotte Potato Salad with mayo, with salad and Dijon vinegarette and freshly baked baguette with Esprit do Bunganay Rose from Provence. She tells me she still loves me. That's a result! :) |
uk1, will you come by and cook for me? And do you cook all the time every day? It certainly seems so.
|
That does look a nice fresh dish for a hot day.
Lots of butter on the side plate I see.....ah, and the bottle opener has finally made an appearance. ^ PS. Are those flowers plastic? |
