Yesterday's post hike snack and lunch:

Courage Bagels. Montreal style bagels that the New York Times considers to be some of the best bagels anywhere. A small shop with only a walk-up window. Open only Thursday - Monday from 7am to 2pm. No app or online ordering. We stood in line for forty minutes to place our order and then another 15-20 wait to have it brought out. Yes, it was worth the wait.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7384fc44aa.jpg

On the left, my half order of hand sliced smoked salmon with cream cheese, tomato, onion, capers, dill, pepper, olive oil and lemon on an everything bagel. On the right, my friend and fellow moderator's Simply Delicious with cream cheese, capers, salmon, olive oil, pepper and lemon on an onion bagel.

There is a limit of two loose bagels per customers.

Next time, I'll ask to place the order in separate boxes.

Next stop was a few blocks to the south at Daybird, Top Chef winner Mei Lin's Szechuan Hot Chicken take-out restaurant. Here we were able to order online. The chicken is moist on the inside and super crunchy on the outside (it is double fried). It can be ordered in five heat levels, I ordered mine hot, my friend went for medium. The french fries are creamy on the inside and maintain their crunch until you are done eating them; there was not a limp one in the bunch.

It all looks wonderful but I can not imagine investing an hour of my time to get a bagel....even if I had nothing better to do. And that chicken and fries--yum! I never get up to that part of town but that might be worth a trip.

We got there at noon on a Saturday, so it was probably their busiest time. By the time that we left, there were only three parties in line, probably under a five minutes wait to place an order. When I went there with my daughter on a Friday in early April, the wait for placing the order and receiving it was less than half an hour. And it is not just any bagel...

Yes, Qatar of course. Here are some more pics - I was in Greece where lamb was ridiculously expensive so it was nice to be able to order it for a meal on the plane!
I had ordered a Hindu meal on another flight that was awful, but the breakfast "dosa" was really good! (although the dosa was just a small part of the dish everything was quite tasty!)

The logo looked familiar, but I couldn't place it.

I waited 40 minutes on Saturday morning for a pastry pop-up because it was an opportunity to see my bestie and to try something new. Plus I had the bandwidth. I wouldn’t return on my own; it’s apparently the final Saturday of the month and this place is 35 minutes walk from home, or 15 minute drive/park/walk. It’s more social than anything else, plus I know my bestie appreciated my early arrival so that they only waited behind 2 parties; else it would have been 6-7 parties ahead!

While I don’t always wait in line for food, there are extenuating circumstances where it can be worth my time. As it is, I drove an hour for legoland yesterday for a play date with friends. I’m just a social whore! I love seeing friends.

Legoland in Carlsbad? I didn't even realize that there was another one in Northern California.

well… legoland discovery center. Technically that’s where we went. Milpitas. Great mall eateries; super tempting.

omg I have so many leftovers for Monday luncheon. I’m just mega eager to return to my Japanese curry place near my house… I finally knew that it was time to return. Just don’t yet know the day :p

They have smaller ones all over. Not like the Carlsbad one. We have one in PHX.
