gorgeous - what’s the beef? It resembles ham.

Smoked beef. Halal, although that’s not important for me.

any chance you smoked the beef? Is that the same as corned beef? Now it makes more sense.

I assume that’s cheese as well?

It’s like sliced meat, for sandwiches or such. Yes, has cheese and a little mayonnaise, before being pan fried, I think it’s coated in mixed egg and Panko.

I am only involved in the eating of it, not making it. :)

Corned beef is boiled, not smoked.

That smoked beef does look pretty good though.

When you do try....don't boil it...best to braise in the oven but stovetop braise also works. Best not to boil--only simmer. And I always buy the point cut....the flat cut is leaner and can be dry because of that.

My wife has been very inventive the last month. I mention something to buy, and she makes it herself (for the first time ever).

Today’s treat, Klappertaart. Usually I eat it cold, but couldn't wait to try it out of the oven. Delicious.

I'm not the one who has a custard recipe? And saying "your woman" just seems demeaning.

As a (nearly) lifelong Chicagoan, I occasionally remember certain things I wish were available here. We love breakfast sandwiches, so I got it in my head to make Toulouse sandwiches (a la Bennison's Bakery in Evanston). My cousin was bringing croissants from Merci Cafe in Scottsdale. So, I sliced the croissants, then added bacon, ham, gruyere and scrambled eggs and then drizzled bechamel over the top. Pretty tasty, if I do say so myself. We sat outside and enjoyed them with fresh berries and Mimosas. The only complaint was that there were not two sandwiches for each of us. Next time. Finished up with home made lemon mousse with fresh whipped cream.

“your woman” is a song by White Town, who’s from Indonesia. Jaimito lives in Indonesia and is our age so it’s a total inside joke.

Never heard of that band. I’ll ask my younger wife if she knows them. :)

Edited: I googled White Town, and don’t see anything about Indonesia. It says the musician was born in India, but moved to the UK when he was 3.

We normally live in the US during the school year, but came to Indonesia early when school was canceled. Supposed to be heading back in August.
