With a blizzard on the way, I made a big pot of Guiness beef stew last night. Today I'm slow-roasting some thick, meaty ribs in the oven (Alton Brown's "Who Loves Ya, Baby Back?" recipe). Many bbq aficionados would not approve of cooking ribs in the oven, but with all the snow and wind swirling around outside, we can't even see the grill, much less use it.

I grant you absolution. It's raining too hard on my deck right now to use the grill. I would cook ribs indoors if I was cooking ribs tonight.

Sounds good!

You ignore them. My ribs are always what you might think of as Chinese style and are always slow braised in their sauce in the oven in foil until tender and beginning to fall off the bone, and then the foil taken off for their final bake! Lovely sticky moist ribs!

Some I made some time earlier .....

Those thyme potatoes make a very welcome reappearance again ... and may I say that your great and most appropriate collection of plain white plates have not gone unnoticed. Let the food speak for itself ... and yours certainly does!

Just a minor point. You missed out slowly braised chopped onions and a grating of nutmeg in that mash .....

Was that a lemon light sauce underneath?

Why thank you! It was some chicken gravy that I batch made and took from the freezer. I always try to use white plates, as you say, it shows off the food better. I keep wanting to get some from Villeroy & Bosch but my wife is rather prone to breaking things and they are rather pricey. Of course I could wash them up myself but I flatly refuse to do both the cooking and the washing up!

I have a thing about very large plain white plates ..... and if it's of interest ours came from M&S. I like plain everything and find it breaks your heart if you pay too much and find that they don't like the dishwasher.

I have over-ordered for our next Ocado delivery due next Monday ...

I didn't take a photo, but I made a salad for dinner:

spring mix
mini bell peppers that I roasted on the stovetop
blackened cajun chicken breast sauteed in a mix of butter and oil with some garlic
oil and Balsamic vinegar

and of course the remainder of my most recent loaf of bread
and some Spanish red wine

Not brought any Branstons but I do always bring back several bottles of HP Sauce, OXO cubes, Horseradish Sauce, Mango Chutney, Tartar sauce, spices, Chinese stir fry sauces and Maple Syrup. We haven't been back since May 2013 so I'm running low.
As I have a sweet tooth fortunately chocolate bars like Cadbury are widely available here and taste the same as the UK ones.

Stopped by Dunkin Donuts just now for a jelly doughnut and coffee. Forgot they were doing Valentines Day doughnuts so I got a weird heart shaped doughnut. I also think it was smaller than the round one.

Durham opened its first Krispy Kreme today. I stood in line 20 minutes to bring in a box of doughnuts for all my friends. Their coffee is pretty bad but the doughnuts were good.

With the cold blast hovering around the northeast & grounded, we settled in for Super Bowl with Shabu Shabu @home, already overstocked from the earlier blizzard warning in the week, with plenty of choices - keep everyone nice & warm while being our own "chef", LOL.
