We have visitors this week and are throwing a party tonight as my granddaughter turns one. I bought a six pack of Modelo Negra as one of the dark offerings. We shall see.

About a month ago, I bought a six pack of Shiner Cold Brew coffee ale. I got around to trying it this weekend. I like coffee. I like ale. This tasted like neither and I will have to attempt to give away the remaining 4 bottles.

You win some, you lose some. :p I keep seeing that at HEB and I'm intrigued but not enough to buy it :o

I've got a 6 pack of Alaskan Icy Bay IPA in the fridge right now.

We have a taproom that just opened up near us in the South Bay, California called IBU. The other day I had this passion fruit sour. It tasted like drinking juice.

Let me guess: they served a lot of IPAs? :D

But was it good?

I had a cranberry-lime gose, essentially a sour, a couple of weeks ago that looked like Kool-Ade. But it tasted sublime, with everything I'd ask for in a sour. If only I'd been blind and could look past the color! ;)

Square Mile Cider

Very dry and crisp. Less apple flavor than most ciders. Pretty good, but I think I like others like Angry Orchard and Crispin better.

Lawson's Sip of Sunshine. Really like it - can see why it has so much hype. Thankfully have a few more that made it back to NC with me.

We're not fancy. We have Sam Adams Boston Lager, Corona and Lagunitas. Nothing fancy. Had a case of local Massachusetts beer Jack's Abbey lager but I didn't really like it. I do like Dos Equis and have had lots of good Mexican beers (Modelo, Tecate, etc.). I had Kingfisher last night with Indian food.

Happy hour at the Shipyard Grill yesterday afternoon featured 16 ounce Rolling Rock drafts for $1.

It used to be referred to as "the Coors of the East coast" which is no longer the compliment it was 40 years ago. Still, I find it drinkable. And in addition to $1 drafts, the apps were half off so we ate and drank for 2 hours and the bill was under $30, including a 40% tip.

This is becoming a regular habit for us. The Shipyard has a tiki bar that is covered and cooled with fans, while open on 3 sides so I can comfortably watch the pelicans and boats come and go while I drink.

It's a light beer (or similar to one) right? A comedian once said "Light beer is like [copulating] in a canoe. It's ****ing close to water!"

There was a time where I was on an Amtrak excursion train, and the outdoor activity portion of the trip was long, hot, and dehydrating. The café car ran out of water, juice, and soda, and all they had left was beer. It was another couple hours before we would arrive at Washington Union Station, so I bought two light beers (bud light and coors light) to rehydrate, and it worked.

It is not a "light" beer. It is a macro-brewed (AB InBev) lager with 4.5% alcohol by volume. It doesn't have a lot of flavor but it's closer to beer than water.

I don't think I've had it since they stopped brewing in Latrobe.
