I don't think I've had it since they stopped brewing in Latrobe.

It isn't better. Apparently Labatt kept everything the same. AB InBev made changes when they moved it and it's not the same beer. It may just be the water.

I drank a lot of Rolling Rock while a student at Ohio U in the late '80s.

It was a (very) small step up from the usual Old Milwaukee on tap in every local bar. Given the volume I was purchasing, I usually couldn't afford Coors Light, a typical premium offering. :D

I remember Rolling Rock had a certain, kind of funky, taste...no doubt due to the water.

It used to be referred to as "the Coors of the East coast" which is no longer the compliment it was 40 years ago. Still, I find it drinkable. And in addition to $1 drafts, the apps were half off so we ate and drank for 2 hours and the bill was under $30, including a 40% tip.

This is becoming a regular habit for us. The Shipyard has a tiki bar that is covered and cooled with fans, while open on 3 sides so I can comfortably watch the pelicans and boats come and go while I drink.

Sounds glorious... Last time I had Rolling Rock was helping a friend move a couple years ago and he had a 30 rack in the fridge for us.

Currently I have a Magic Hat Variety 24 pack in/around the fridge ($23 at Costco). I like the IPA, have yet to try the others.

It was always the water.

For some reason all we ever see here is #9 . I like it, don't get me wrong, but I'd be open to trying their other beers if they were available.

the variety pack wondering around here includes their:

Blind Faith IPA
Mother Lager
Hocus Pocus Wheat Ale
Elder Betty

In other news I found Abita's Mardi Gras Bock on clearance for $5/6er at HEB today. Now considering my first introduction to this beer was a bar crawl in NOLA for $1 a beer, I'm quite happy to find it on the clearance rack. It's a good beer, but truthfully it's not worth the rack price of $9/6er, which is really true of most of Abita's beers. They're good, but very few of their beers are great or worth seeking out.

I would make an exception for Purple Haze, but generally agree. However my tour of the brewery about 18 months ago was so enjoyable, I went back the following day for another go. In the process, I tried every beer that was available at the time.

Since we were going through sixtels at a clip of once a week, I've since switched to the full keg. On tap right now is Manor Hill IPA. I think they may be the best brewer in Maryland and there are several good ones. They are one of the few breweries nationwide growing their hops.

Did you buy a made for purpose keg fridge, or build your own?

Oskar Blues Old Chub Scottish Ale
Blue Moon (needed something in a can that was inexpensive, tasted okay, and good for hanging out next to a pool)

Juicy Jay IPA from Legion Brewing - not bad but nowhere near the top tier of NC beers

Abita Amber. Just because I'm in a 'Nawlins kind of mood.

The last Abita I recall falling victim of was long ago at a fish fry in Breaux Bridge, Abita Turbo Dog. Between the beer and the "Gar Balls", it was a rural Cajun evening. I passed on the nutria en sauce piquant, not too spicy for a Summer's Eve, but the pre-cooking "butchering" a bit off-putting, nutria reminding me of the humongous rats which used to patrol the quays in Naples.

Here in my neck of the woods, Abita Purple Haze is the only variety of Abita available here. It wasn't great. It reminded me of Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss. Fruity Pebbles in a bottle!
