Minimum connection time at AMS
Note: when determining the airline for MCT purposes, what counts is who markets the flight, not who operates it.

Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-KL: 50 minutes

Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-DL, DL-KL, or DL-DL: 25 minutes

Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, KL-KL or KL-DL: 90 minutes

Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, DL-KL or DL-DL: 50 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-KL or DL-KL: 60 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-DL or DL-DL: 50 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, DL-DL, DL-KL, or KL-DL: 50 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, KL-KL: anywhere from 40 minutes to 2 hours--it depends on the flight numbers and the dates. I've posted the raw output below to help you figure out which MCT will apply.

Is 1 hour enough to transfer?

Flying DTW to BRU connecting in AMS on Nov. 2. Arrive AMS 05:55 on Delta, depart 6:55 on Delta. Is that enough time to transfer? Don't know yet if I'm checking my bag or just taking a carry on. Thanks.

DL does not fly AMS-BRU; it must be a code share operated by KL. 1 hour is plenty of time.

I'm flying CDG-AMS-PDX in a couple months and have a 1hr20min connection in AMS - should this be enough time? I have never flown through AMS before so don't know what to expect. Will my bags be checked through? What about passport control?

The first leg is Air France operated and both flights are booked on the same ticket.

Thanks

As you are leaving the Shengen zone, it is faster than the other way.
1h20 should be fine but do not waste time. My advice is requesting a seat in front of the cabin on CDG-AMS leg and ask your way to the agent at the gate when you exit the aircraft.
But don't worry, transfer at AMS are very easy.

AMS connectin time

I have flown through AMS numerous times and as long as you don't have to leave the EU zone to get luggage (because you are changing from DL or Skyteam member to a different carrier that Skyteam doesn't have a baggage agreement with) than one hour is typically more than enough time to get from one Skyteam flight to another. If you are staying in the EU zone then you don't need to clear Customs or Passport control, but there is a security check, and probably security questions at every individual gate.

If you have a long layover in AMS, I have found that leaving the airport for a Canal tour to be enjoyable and train access is available directly from the airport. Clearing Customs usually runs very quickly when you come back into the airport, especially if you leave most of your luggage in Left Luggage before leaving the EU zone.

GVA-AMS-MEM

Hello,

I have a 65 minute connection in AMS for the route GVA - AMS - MEM. To what degree should I freak out?

Thanks.

Sorry if this is a bit redundant, but I've been reading this thread and googling "schengen" to better understand...

I am flying JFK-AMS-GVA on KL metal and then the reverse on the way back, and I believe it's the first time I've been to Europe via a connecting flight - at least that I can remember. I have a 2-hour layover in AMS. I see that the Netherlands and Switzerland are part of Shengen, so what does that mean for where I go through customs/passport security -- in AMS or GVA?

LAX-AMS-ARN

I read most of this thread and understood that 1hr connection if fine at AMS. However, our 15-yr old daughter will be flying alone. We are looking at flight for her from LAX-AMS-ARN on KLM. Arriving AMS at 9:15am and leaving at 10:15am. She will be flying on a non-weekend day, tu-thu. Will she make it?
Same on the way back, from, ARN-AMS getting at 8:40am, leaving at 9:50am for LAX. This is the only non-stop flight a day to LAX. If she misses it, she has to take the next flight, which has a stop over either in St. Paul or Detroit. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

These are tight connections, but still quite feasible. She needs to move at a deliberate pace throughout the process. The flight to LAX will have security at the gate even though she will have gone through security at the point of origination, ARN.

I asked almost the identical question last year, for a connection of ~ 1 hour, and the responses were that it should work. Two potential issues would be if you landed on the Polder runway and had to take a long time taxiing and if there is a long line at passport control. I have made it in this time but we landed on time, there was essentially no line, and I was in Business.

I'd be tempted to chance it, because there are frequent flights AMS-CDG and they are all either AF or KL (and code-shared with each other & I think all with DL as well). If you missed one, you would likely get on the next one.

Hello everyone

In about a month I'll be flying FCO-AMS-CPT. The flight from Rome is scheduled to land at 8.50 am, and the other one departs at 10.05 a.m.

Is 75min enough time? How long will I have to walk?

Thanks in advance

I had hours there today, but had I been on a tight connect, from sitting in the 5th row of Y on the 744 into a G gate (I think), through passport in the Elite Plus line and to gate B18 I could have done it all in less than 30 minutes.

In my experience, I would rather have too much time than not enough. Last fall we connected from delta to KLM. Ran and had to break in line in AMS to get through passport control and security AGAIN! Then when we arrived in Lisbon, we had no luggage. Just not worth it.

So this May, we are choosing to have a 3.5 hour connection in AMS to BCN as opposed to 1.25. I know, long wiat, but not as long a wait as freaking out over luggage.
