Minimum connection time at AMS
Note: when determining the airline for MCT purposes, what counts is who markets the flight, not who operates it.

Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-KL: 50 minutes

Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-DL, DL-KL, or DL-DL: 25 minutes

Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, KL-KL or KL-DL: 90 minutes

Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, DL-KL or DL-DL: 50 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-KL or DL-KL: 60 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-DL or DL-DL: 50 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, DL-DL, DL-KL, or KL-DL: 50 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, KL-KL: anywhere from 40 minutes to 2 hours--it depends on the flight numbers and the dates. I've posted the raw output below to help you figure out which MCT will apply.

If you're looking for "easiest", it may be better to avoid ATL (more int'l flights means longer immigration lines, customs and longer luggage re-check lines). Otherwise all the options above look ok.

Thank you for the response.

I ended up booking a similar flight. The return from SAN > MEM > AMS > WAW is the same.

However coming in I am going WAW > AMS > LAX > SAN. But by this route I am able to get 3.5 hours at LAX? I'm assuming that should be sufficient to clear customs right? I have more options just in case not.

Going back though, would I clear customs in AMS or WAW? I have just about 2 hours in AMS and I want to make sure I'll be okay if it's needed there.

Poland is a full Schengen member, so the procedure for the US-AMS-WAW legs will be:

- Clear passport control at AMS
- Clear security at AMS (after passport control)
- Collect bags at WAW
- Clear customs at WAW - I've never done customs at WAW, but this is a non-event in most EU countries, you simply walk through the nothing to declare line.

2 hours should be fine.

Would you take a chance with a 1 hour connection DL (from MEM) to KL to CDG, both on award tickets in Business? It's the only option for the low award. AF has several later flights but none comes up. If we miss the connection, it's not an issue as long as we can get on an AF flight with our award tix. Thanks.

I would. Just did a 1hr DTW-AMS-LIS and it was a walk in the park. For a low award I would spend 4 days in AMS.

Shouldn't need any short connection line aa far as I can tell... BOM and DTW will both leave/arrive from the non-schengen side. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

This thread is monster... there should really be a helpful up-to-date post at the beginning with link to the current MCT.

What is the current MCT for DL at AMS? I have Privium so I never worry about this, but I am traveling with a friend in September who does not, so now I am slightly worried. I've booked us on TXL-AMS-MSP, and the connection time in AMS is 50 minutes. The line going from schengen to ex-schengen isn't usually that bad, but it does feel a bit tight, and I'm wondering if it's even legal for a connection to a USA-bound flight...

If we miss it it's not the end of the world, as I think we could probably catch one of the 2:40 bank flights to DTW/MSP, but we would probably get stuck in crap seats which is not quite what I would want.

my flight started on July 17th and was delayed for 3 hours due to some problem with flight Tyre in Bombay and i thought i will miss my connecting flight however to my surprise DELTA halted connecting flight for 2 hours in Amsterdam because there was many connecting passenger in my flight.

so yes they do hold flights in case your flight is delayed and there are many other people for same connection. During the trip I also learned if you mis your connecting flight due to flight delays they will automatically book you in next connecting flight though it may be long route, for example my connecting flight to vegas was canceled on memphis airport so they rebooked me for next day and put me in holiday express motel with 2 x $6 meal vouchers which i did not use!. However, they sent me to Detroit and then to Vegas. My one checked in bag was with them whole time but they managed to deliver it to me on vegas airport properly.

I changed my meal to hindu veg while going to usa and veg meal was good. I had same veg meal in return.

Question PRG-AMX-ATL Connection

When Delta eliminated the non-stop PRG-ATL flight, I was rebooked PRG-AMS-ATL-TUS (25 Sep, all in business or first). The PRG-AMS leg is KL 3120 operated by Czech Air.

My question is: when we check in at PRG (0700 departure) will we be able to check bags thru to TUS or will we have to retrieve bags and recheck with Delta in AMS. We have about two hours in AMS.

As you would expect, I am unable to select seats on the Czech Air plane, but I am not really concerned about that.

Thanks in advance for any info.

As long as you are flying OK, DL, AF/KL, the bags will be checked in PRG all the way to ATL.

Your bags will be checked all the way through for you when you check-in at PRG.

You DO NOT have to pick up your bags in AMS. You won't see them again until you get to ATL.

You MUST pick up your bags in ATL when you arrive. All bags, regardless of final destination, must be retrieved in ATL and then rescreened.

You will go through security screening three times on this itinerary. First in PRG on your flight to AMS. Then in AMS because you are flying to the US. Then in ATL because you just arrived on an international flight. (You won't have to take off your shoes in PRG or AMS unless there's a lot of metal in them).
