Minimum connection time at AMS
Note: when determining the airline for MCT purposes, what counts is who markets the flight, not who operates it.

Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-KL: 50 minutes

Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-DL, DL-KL, or DL-DL: 25 minutes

Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, KL-KL or KL-DL: 90 minutes

Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, DL-KL or DL-DL: 50 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-KL or DL-KL: 60 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-DL or DL-DL: 50 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, DL-DL, DL-KL, or KL-DL: 50 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, KL-KL: anywhere from 40 minutes to 2 hours--it depends on the flight numbers and the dates. I've posted the raw output below to help you figure out which MCT will apply.

There is a nice business lounge in PRG to catch a bit of breakfast before the flight. But OK will serve a basic breakfast even on a short flight like PRG-AMS.
In AMS, you will have anywhere from a 15-25 minute walk from your arrival gate to your DL gate, almost always in the E pier. And there will be a separate gate security for your DL flight as RobOnLI has mentioned.

OK should be able to give you your BPs for all flights when you check in at PRG. And indeed, your luggage will be checked through to TUS although you must claim it in ATL to take through Customs. Then after that, there will be counter to hand the bags back to DL for your onward connection.

I'm going to connect ATL - AMS - STR tomorrow with 50 minutes. Let's see how that goes.. I actually regret that I chose that connection, would have liked to check out the KLM lounge...

We had a 60 minute connection BOS-AMS-LHR... we left BOS on time and arrived about 45 minutes early in AMS... an easy connection, needless to say.

Worked out great for me, plane arrived some minutes early, so I was able to relax some minutes in the KLM crown room - nice airport in general, it's refreshing to see a really modern hub after connecting through ATL all the time..

I actually have trouble understanding this comment and the swipe at ATL. What about ATL is less than modern? ATL has different issues since it is both an international and a domestic hub whereas AMS is simply an international hub (with rare exceptions).

The concept that I do not like in AMS is the concept of "gate open" as there is very little seating outside of the gates themselves.

if you are not sure of getting to &from Amsterdam . you should head over to the Rijkesmuseam shop , just before it is a desk where you can , take an organised
tour , am not sure on prices .
is there a avaition museam near Schipol that is easy to get to ?
as to transfer times when i book through my travel agent their system requires around
75 minutes minimum as US flights have longer security proccedures
Will the latest incedent with the 2 Yemenie Pax on UA mean longer waits at Schipol

Non-Schengen/EU Transfers?

We will be transiting from U.S. to Istanbul in both directions this fall. I've not done this before - does this actually take less time (or less passport checking somehow), because you don't actually enter the EU or Schengen zone? Or is it a bit more complicated? I think our connection times are OK, over 2 hours, but I'm wondering if we'll still have time to hit the lounge and casino, things I love about AMS...

My recollection is that it is faster on the way there since you don't need to enter the "EU". However on the way back, I would be prepared for more security screening at the gate. The like asking all sorts of stupid questions, like "do you have your frequent flyer card with you". At least that has been my experience connecting to NW/DL to the USA at AMS.

In a couple of weeks, Mrs. milesho and I will be traveling PRG-AMS-ATL-TUS. The PRG-AMS leg is a KL code share operated by OK arriving AMS at 0840. Our AMS-ATL leg is DL 239 departing at 1045.

I'm guessing that we will have adequate time to make the connection but not much for shopping or lounge visits. Am I right? I have never been to AMS. We are in front cabins for all legs.

Thanks.

You have at least a full hour to shop or lounge. Your OK flight will arrive most likely on the D pier and almost all DL flights leave from E. You will have to go through a security check at your boarding gate for the flight to the USA.

BTW, there is a decent lounge for you to enjoy in PRG before your departure.

Question EasyJet and Arkefly

I am trying to help my mother book a flight and have questions re. AMS connections. She has never flown via AMS before and I am trying to set her mind at ease that the connections will be fine (at least I'm hoping they will!).

Outbound flight. She plans to fly EasyJet to LGW-AMS arriving at 8:35am, with a separate ticket on Arkefly from AMS-CUR leaving at 11:20am. There is no eticket option for AMS-CUR so she will have to pick up the ticket at AMS on arrival. From what I have read in this thread I believe 2hrs 45 mins will be plenty of time for her to collect her Arkefly ticket and check in? Will she have to go through customs at AMS after arriving from LGW? Will she have to go through security again for the AMS-CUR flight?

Return flight. Arkefly CUR-AMS arriving at 10:00am, with Easyjet AMS-LGW leaving at 12noon. Is this feasible? I believe she will she be able to check in and print her boarding pass online with Easyjet prior to leaving CUR, so that should help. Will she have to go through customs at AMS and then go through security again for the AMS-LGW flight or can she go straight to the departure gate?

Would it be best to bring carry on luggage only, for speed reasons?

I know I'm asking for a lot of specifics, but it would really help to know the logistics and I can't seem to find anything on the Easyjet site. The Arkefly site is only in Dutch...so that doesn't help at all.

Thanks for any insights.

So a 55-min connection from DL to KLM in AMS is possible (JFK-AMS-ZRH)? Will our bags be checked through, or do we have to claim and re-check? What about security screening? Seems like a major rush to me, and not in a good way.

I think it is a plausible time. The bags will be checked through. You will need to go thru passport and security screening but it usually isn't too bad.

I did 55 minutes in August (DTW-AMS-ARN) but kept moving partly because KLM boards so early.
