My (LoganFlyer's) guide to maximizing your bump chances on Delta:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/30484249-post1713.html
(The concise version:
1. Use the App to see if more people are looking for seats than there are seats available. As part of the Customer Commitment, gate agents, phone res agents, and tickets agents must tell you if a flight is overbooked if you ask. (They don't need to say by how many seats.)
2. Do everything you can to get on the volunteer list through OLCI or a kiosk at the airport, since some GAs use that list.
3. Talk to the GA as soon as the gate opens up--don't wait for them to make an announcement.
4. Don't be afraid to negotiate with the GA.)

Welcome to Flyertalk! Glad you got the $500 though I'm sorry it meant a misconnect. Hope you stick around and post more ^

1/13 - Originally scheduled from COS-SLC-SAT leaving COS in the evening. Schedule change happened and wife and I were rebooked COS-SLC-ATL-SAT leaving in the morning (killed a 1/2 day of vacation). Got to SLC and VDB for the SLC-ATL flight. Wife and I got $1K each, and direct flight from SLC-SAT, getting in 4 hrs later. Had 8 hrs to kill in SLC, so we took the train downtown and had a nice lunch, then came back and went to the SkyClub until our flight. All in all, not a bad deal.

I must be missing something... LAV (which I've never heard of before) is in Samoa? It doesn't look like DL even flies there.

Yes, sorry, meant LAS, LAV is a common acronym in my line of work and I had a brain fart after that long day.
Unfortunately no miles as it was originally an award ticket... but I made $500 to spend a day reading so I can't complain much.

Just got off a LGA-CVG domestic 2hr flight. Due to winter storm Jonas flights out of NYC were cancelled Sat/Sun. I was surprised to see the sold out flight hold out for bids at 500/700/900, and bids ended up getting to $1100 with hotel and transportation to take a VDB the next morning. They needed 6 originally and still needed 3 at $900 before the jump to $1100.

SJC-MSP $800 X2 pax. Rerouted SJC-SEA-MSP. Cost me about 5 extra hours.

Late to the party on this, but on 2/1 I was going PIT>ATL>SAN and the segment to SAN was oversold by 8. Got an $800 voucher and confirmed first to SAN via SLC, arriving roughly 4 hours later.

ATL->BWI was offering $800 for two this morning. Would have gone for it, but next available routing doesn't get in until 7:30pm (rather than 9:30am)
