Thanks for clarification^^, that is kinda what I meant.
But in this case of 350s does anybody actually know why the wingtips before anything else?

I believd it is has to do with airflow over the surface of the winglet. Seemingly small changes in the surface shape can have a huge impact and decrease efficiency, so the paint or decal is probably applied as the winglets are manufactured rather than after it is installed when the aircraft gets painted following it's assembly.

The whole wing is painted. Just the wingtip is easier to see then the white the blends in closely to the fuselage cream color. They are produced at a separate plant and brought in and attached. Thus the painting is already done.

It seems like the placeholder 777 starting first week of November could be the first a350. DTW->NRT.

Yeah, just look at Delta's schedule for DTW-Asia starting Saturday October 28. The 747s are taken off DTW-NRT/PVG. DTW-ICN remains a daily 747 until November 13 before it switches back and forth between the 747 and 777 until December 15. The last A330-200 scheduled to fly DTW-PEK goes on February 15 and is replaced by the 777 effective February 17. Gives you an idea of where the A350-900 will be flying next winter. My guess based on the schedule and information from reliable Delta employees is DTW-NRT is first, then DTW-PVG, and followed by DTW-ICN. Since only five are being delivered this year instead of the planned six, all three routes won't switch over until early next year. My guess is DTW-PEK will be the fourth route as I'd figure Delta will concentrate the A350-900s at DTW. Not sure what will happen to DTW-NGO if it remains an A330-200 or loses a weekly frequency if it switches to the A350-900. I wouldn't expect A350-900 flights out of other hubs until late next year when there are enough of them in the fleet.

thanks! I may somehow try to get that first NRT flight. I have 2 global upgrades left to use, so I want to make them count

If your goal is to be on the first DL A350 flight, it won't be NRT. Almost certainly, DL will use the plane on domestic test flights before sending it over the ocean.

my goal is to ride in the delta suite to Asia. whenever I can make that happen, is most important.

I may be miss-remembering, but doesn't DL typically fly new planes on like ATL/MCO?

But if these are going to be used out of DTW, I would expect something like DTW-MSP/ORD/CVG, something with high frequency so if there is an issue it's a short flight back to base and lots of ability to cover misplaced passengers.

Check rides on DTW-DCA? If a 76 can fly to/from DCA, can a 350?

My guess is DTW-SFO/LAX. Especially since LAX is almost certainly going to be the 2nd A350 hub
