It is noteworthy that many of those countries that still have some restrictions only have them for non-EU arrivals. E.g. it's perfectly possible to visit them without restrictions as long as one first stops somewhere in the EU.

I'm just about to book a Eurostar ticket for London-Paris travel for late August. As it currently stands there are definitely Covid-related restrictions/paperwork to consider.

Q: Is France likely to drop this completely before we travel?

Crystal ball territory. France has long been on the more nervous side, but then so were Germany and Austria and they have opened up.

Crossing borders by car in Europe

I know things are opening up quickly in Europe, but can someone confirm what the requirements are in traveling between countries by car? For example, we are US citizens but are are going to be crossing by car from Switzerland to France at the end of June. France currently still requires negative test for unvaccinated. If that remains the case, does France require negative test for everyone in the car to cross the border? Or is there already some lesser requirements crossing between countries in the EU? I've heard conflicting reports and what is currently required.

Seems like they don't even know when it might get dropped. Sounds like someone in the German government jumped the gun.

I've been going to Greece for 17 years every summer. I've never seen it so busy. Rental cars are super expensive. Hotel suites that I usually upgrade to are all sold out and have been for months. Regular hotel rooms that were around 250 euro per night are closer to 600 euro. I booked early in January, so am thankfully immune to most of this. There must be a lot of pent up demand.

I have seen the same thing except I did not book in January. I am looking at pulling the plug and going elsewhere now that other countries are opening up. I think it is a combination of the pent up demand and people guessing that Greece will be one of the most open med destinations.

It's not just Greece, I'm in Spain and it's the same here, it feels like July or even August it's so busy, and it's been like this since early May !

Even Lufthansa are still saying the entry restrictions are lifted. A bit of a mess.

The German foreign ministry states that that restrictions have been dropped
https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/de/q...1468#content_0

EDIT: my sister flew from the UK to Germany with Lufthansa yesterday (2 June) and wasn't asked for vax/test/recovered information at any point. Sounds like the "3G rule" is gone for the moment.

OT but who is behind schengenvisainfo.com? Their About Us and Imprint pages don't really reveal much...

The foreign ministry web page is rather unclear which is likely the cause of the current confusion. First it says this:
Recent major changes

Since May 31: From June 1, 2022, registration, proof and quarantine will only apply if you have previously stayed in a virus variant area. Extension of the entry regulation until August 31, 2022.
Then the next paragraphs are:
entry restrictions

EU -wide entry restrictions continue to apply . For Germany, these are issued by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Homeland ( BMI ). Before you travel, please also contact the Federal Ministry of the Interior to find out which specific regulations apply to the country from which you are entering Germany.

In principle, entry is possible from:

EU Member States
Schengen associated countries: Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein
Other countries from which entry is permitted based on the epidemiological situation assessment by the EU

Entry from other countries is only possible for fully vaccinated persons for any purpose (including visiting trips or tourism). Vaccination must have been carried out with at least two doses of one or more vaccines approved by the European Union . In third countries, the vaccination may also have been carried out with equivalent vaccines. A list of these vaccines can be found here .

For unvaccinated people from other countries, entry is still only possible in exceptional cases. The prerequisite is that there is a compelling need .
