In the U.S., Congress would have to pass an Act for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to do the smart thing. Right now, BEP and Mint are both (and separately) required to make dollars bills and coins, respectively.

Those really are still available - they are only pressed every few years, though.

I hear ya!:-: When I gave tours at the NY Fed -- there were sheets of bills there -- aside from the gold in the basement vault!;) Souvenir bags of shredded old bills were given out!

I have always said I would try to be available for any FT visits. I live in a BNA burb but really like this area.

My bank's regional cash vault has seen no demand from the branches for dollar coins. Though there have been numerous large deposits made in dollar coins, also still in the mint boxes.

That particular bill is wallet candy but I've been known to spend $2 bills.
