I didn't really mind ROC as a city all that much. I just hated, as you said, the weather and the economy. I was swept up in a 10,000 person lay-off from a certain camera company and realized that it was probably the best thing to happen to me. I go back there more than I head to the Carolinas as that's where her family is from. A day or two at a time is sufficient as far as I'm concerned.

Even proposed to the Canuck at the Lilac festival in Highland Park, as that's where we met many moons prior (under the glow of the deep-fried oreo wagon).

I had been trying very hard to convert her accent over to a Southern belle accent. I finally gave up and settled with the fact that I, more or less, eradicated the nasal-ROC accent. Although it rears its ugly head about as often as I drop a "reckon" or a "fixin."

I will, however, never give-up calling the evening meal supper.

Well, if she does not do the hard ROC "A" and "O", consider the battle won! :D ROC's take on English is indeed amusing.;)

I associate Northern hospitality with a certain quilted brand of toilet paper.

You could always acquire a Lowes 10% off coupon and shop in Paterson for 3.5% sales tax or rent a truck and go to DE for no sales tax.

The Lowes in Paterson has a range on clearance with a scratch on the side that you would never see. I am tempted to pick it up.

It is similar to a Utica accent? I end up going up there a bunch cause the wife's family is there (but not native Utican so they don't have the accent). It's a bit weird. :-:

I let it slide some times. She calls the class of olympic sports that take place in a pool: uh-kWAHt-ics.

:rolleyes:

I got my range as a scratch and dent special from a local joint. I never did notice any scratches or dents on it. :-:

It's actually rather close. Somehow it skipped over SYR.ca in that whole oddball hard O and A nasal nonsense.

No one steams a ham like a native Utican though.

It sounds like cAt meaning that "A" gets pummeled. The "O" is hard too and sounds like when the Dr. asks a child to stick his/her tongue out and say "ahhhhh". Utica/Syracuse/Binghamton/Albany don't do that. Even BUF does not, it really is just ROC for whatever reason. Of course in ROC, there is an area spelled "Charlotte" called "Shar-lot":D

:mad::mad::mad::rolleyes::mad:

I have to deal with the whole "Chili" thing as that's where her family lives.
