Not good to hear the tower use the term "mass chaos".

In other news, SkyTeam USA states:

A winter storm has impacted travel to, from, or through Houston.

"This is mass chaos" - IAH ATC

I'm kind of surprised they don't bring in controllers with winter weather experience when snow hits an area not accustomed to snow.

The one female controller that I keep hearing summed it up nicely when she called it "mass chaos".

I'll trade experience with the local area, such as knowing local procedures and taxiways and such cold, for experience in bad weather any day. Weather is a temporary event; local knowledge is worth quite a lot more.

I definitely agree but they could probably have a program where the guys with weather experience rotate through once in a while to gain local experience or just have them work with the regulars who are familiar with the local area. It's a little scary (for lack of a better description) to hear a controller say that when they're just dealing with small accumulations and limited visibility.

Meh - maybe it's not worth the trouble...
