Happy birthday Copa. Of course something happened to the infrastructure where there was neither internet at work nor via the cell phone today ...

In order for a Linux-based worm to get to a place where it can harm a system, it would need to either be executed by the root user or it would need someone to manually enter the root password. I'd venture to guess that at least 99% of Linux users know that a system should rarely be operated as a root user (and never when browsing the Internet) and that a root/sudo password should never be entered when executing unknown code.

Any Perl or PHP based worms you are referring to are either spread through vulnerabilities in software that is run on top of Linux (PHP/Perl itself or a PHP/Perl based application) or through executing a PHP/Perl script as a root user (as I said, a bad practice - especially when the origin is unknown). Neither of these can be compared to the Windows based worms that can spread through vulnerabilities in the core system rather than just software run on top of it.

I'm not saying that Linux or OS X are immune to malware - they're not - but I am saying that *nix/BSD based operating systems are built in a way that make them much more difficult, than Windows, to infect.

Safari is horrible, IMO. The scroll boxes in Airline Mogul used to crash Safari for me - if I went too fast down the list of airports, the browser would puke and close itself.

Safari for Windoze is far inferior to Safari running on OS X (which is a great browser, IMO). Still, I prefer Windoze Safari to both Firefox and IE ().

Hip, vibrant, and strangely stark at the same time, generally providing a decent value in areas that shouldn't be as pricey as they are. I hear odd things about the WeHo one, as the hotel was a conversion.

Just for that, I'm picking a golf course with LOTS of bunkers next time. :p

Those are still on my list of things to tackle... In the mean time, I'm just focusing on staying out of them!

Booking flight from RDU-SEA for SEA-NRT trip (12/22 at 11:20a).
Depart 3:45p 12/21 RDU. Arrive-IAH at 5:53p(scheduled 9:30p depart)-SEA.

That gives me 1 extra flight departing RDU at 5:32p(arrive 7:40p)
and gives me 2 earlier flights to go same day stand by on out of IAH(7:20p & 8:30p)

I would book one of the earlier flights out of IAH but the fare goes up about 1.5 times( 498 v 636) I do have a 200 voucher to help

Will likely be checking a Bag.

For the return on 12/29.
Scheduled arrival back to SEA at 8:17p
Take the 11:20p departure-CLE-RDU
(or would it be easier on my body to try and take some thing out on 12/30)

Just trying to plan for the serious brown stuff hitting the round oscillating device and missing the NRT trip.
Have I left myself enough margin of error?

That looks sensible to me. You have built in "reasonable" padding to deal with delays. At some point though, you just have to "let it ride", and I think you have that "balance" as scheduled. This is about how I would do it.:-:

12/21-3:45p ticket on hold
Guess if it looks really crappy that day I can try to get out of RDU even earlier.

Now to figure out where to stay and who to do while over there.
Leaning towards SPG or Hyatt, though I do have a bunch of HH points-Conrad maybe, hmmmmmmm

My trip is likely a bit different than most of the SEA-NRT ones.
I had 50,123 Asia miles, which are now a Biz class ticket to HKG
so it's
12/22
(CO)SEA-IAH
12/23
(CO)IAH-NRT
12/26
(CX)NRT-HKG
12/27
(CX)HKG-NRT
12/29
NRT-IAH-SEA(and now looks like SEA-CLE-RDU)

So Christmas Eve\Christmas in TYO
a night in HKG
then 2 more back in TYO
