Thanks for checking. Yes, I am certain they can opt out of saying "Under God". I asked her if she knew who Obama was (I had taught her he was out president in a very cordial way) and she told me "The greatest President ever". We then discussed President Lincoln and she rattled off a couple others. Plus1 knows I am looking for a reason to switch to private, but I've gone over the edge today!

We have that problem with lignite here as well. :td:

It's not too dirty, it just doesn't produce as much power as the subbituminous stuff, making it a money loser when transported.

The winds in West Texas are some of the worst. I've never been to the northern plains (plan to next year) but I would bet they're close to what I lived through in Lubbock.

The turbines up there go for 24/7 and if they have issues with one, they feather it and get out there and fix it pretty quickly.

My guess for the reasoning of not putting wind turbines in North Dakota is a lack of population density and the fact that it is not completely flat. Looking at terrain maps, there is actually a good bit of rise and fall in the terrain.

If I drink anymore champagne I am going to be passed out before Plus1 is home. I do not handle sick days well.

I suppose I could party with some of the sea FTrs. I haven't been properly tanked in awhile now.

Eastern ND is as flat as a desk top. The state as a whole is pretty flat except way out west. They don't have the political and social will to do it and as electricity is so cheap. In theory ND could power a quarter the country with wind but that would require a grid system that isn't in place to distribute the electricty away from the state. Yes the density is another issue.

I find it nearly impossible to believe that the name of a person would be included in a Pledge, and doubly hard to believe the name of the President would be included in a Texas sanctioned Pledge.

The amount of misinformation is sometimes stunning. Last evening I was told that President Roosevelt, in the Executive Order banning the holding of gold, siezed all safe deposit boxes, which could only be opened in the presence of IRS agents. That from an otherwise, I believed, credible individual. After, I checked the text of the Exec Order, and even found a website with that language attached.

The *REAL* executive order, also available from university/official websites, however, had no such provision. We have to check everything, it seems. Fortunately, with the 'Net, we can.
