We have been looking at spending a good two weeks up there but everything seems to be at the top of the price range.

It's locations like JAC, YZF, FCA, etc., that strike me as ideal destinations for domestic reward redemptions. The flights involved are short enough that I could handle a Y exit-row, and enjoy getting somewhere out-of-the-way for 25K. Building in a stopover somewhere like YVR (returning from YZF) also wouldn't hurt. :-:

Buggies? Nah, must have dusted them right off the road with my wake. Every stretch of highway that was straight to the horizon saw speeds from 85 to 105. For those who want to feel comforted by my driving prowess, the cargo in question on the trip was the machine that tests and calibrates the seeker heads on laser-guided bombs.

It's a fairly long, but not too bad, rental car drive up from DEN. I don't know if DEN or SLC if closer. Done SLC to Yellowstone in a rental via Idaho; picturesque.

Added: Just read more closely: two weeks of rental is maybe pricey.

Wow, it looks like CLE's specials are actually better than EWR's this weekend!

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Nov 9, 2009 7:31 pm

EWR-PTY is a $199 CO Special.

Thank you, sir. I'll pass the link, and the above information. It is a nephew who now wears that badge (not now in guard), and he is understandably proud. He may not know that information.

Are there any Army astronauts? Naming one is a beer-winning bar question at the right bar, for sure.

James Voss, Army Col. Astronaut did a tour on the ISS and was in the space station imax move. Also my next door neighbor when I was growing up.

Now, I realize "why" it is, so I am not engaging in FT whining here;), but I cannot recall the last time that CLT had a "weekend" fare on CO. I see them all of the time from GSO and from RDU. Oh well, it is surprising, but CO probably by in large is a pricing leader in CLT (meaning really inexpensive to most places assuming advance bookings).

That name, and the rarity of the badge, is a beer for sure in, say, Ft. Huachuca, AZ.

Added: Chose that name as example because its field is an alternative shuttle landing field.

A very nice fare for a weekend trip! Unfortunately, the return doesn't work with my schedule on Monday.

I'm thinking of possibly heading down to SAV... Or, I may just stay home.

Pretty sure the buggies aren't allowed on I-81.

I gave people two different sets of directions for getting to Lowville from SYR - one set during the winter (via Utica, 2 hrs), one set during the summer (over Tug Hill, 1.5 hrs).

If you were foolish enough to go over Tug Hill in the winter, you might not be found until the snow melted. In June.

Yeah, that idea has crossed my mind as well.

In other news, CO is now running a banner on the homepage, "Houston to Frankfurt $312 each way", like that's a deal...

To the uninitiated, it may well be. It's the same principle as the winter fare sales to London that say $99 each way and have the bazillion dollars in YQ and taxes in the fine print.

We'd definitely rent for a little while, to move from attraction to attraction.

They are not allowed to do that now, actually got a small fine for it sometime earlier this year as I recall.

It's really not far from Jackson to the south gate to Yellowstone, runs along Tetons and the Elk Preserve. Nice ride.
