With the loss of EQM's on Amtrak, is there really any benefit to booking ZFV's anymore?

A couple years ago ZFV was often times far cheaper than booking EWR (or even PHL/BWI) and allowed one to route onto the EWR transcons vis-a-vis forcing a connection in IAH to score the cheaper fares.

Not sure what the situation is know but price might make ZFV an attractive origin or destination point - especially if a fare war starts brewing ex. PHL.

Checked for the AUS Do dates. $200 to fly Fri-Mon vs. $334 to include Teh Train. ZFV Fail. Night, Box.

I'm several pages behind catching up after a long day's journey into

What is going on in San Francisco this week? I am taking a red-eye home via ORD in E- on a 777 because there were only middle seats left in E+. Other options were US (only middle seats left) and CO (about five seats left on the entire plane). I'm hoping for the upgrade fairy. I think I may have to take the next day off.

Sounds like you've been transported into a Matthew McConaughey film.

Or Four Weddings and a Funeral (Hugh Grant seated at a table with all of his exes), and yes, I'm embarrassed that I'm referencing this movie.

I saw Claudio Reyna and the rest of the New York  Bulls in the PC at EWR a couple of years ago. They were mostly normal sized, which makes sense if you think about it -- soccer players tend not to be huge, especially midfielders -- but still is a little out of whack with what we expect from professional athletes.

It didn't possibly happen to fozz. It happened to you, fozz, and to fozz's friend at our brunch table.

If I know how you're referring to, and I think I do, that was far from the first time it happened at a FT gathering.

That was rather priceless.

That's hilarious.

It's locations like JAC, YZF, FCA, etc., that strike me as ideal destinations for domestic reward redemptions. The flights involved are short enough that I could handle a Y exit-row, and enjoy getting somewhere out-of-the-way for 25K. Building in a stopover somewhere like YVR (returning from YZF) also wouldn't hurt. :-:

Those destinations are definitely worthy of redeeming miles. We did it this summer for both directions in F. Had we booked ATL-LAS, FCA-ATL in Y and paid for it, the out of pocket cost would have been around $1900 for the two of us. Well worth cashing in miles in that case IMO.

It's really not far from Jackson to the south gate to Yellowstone, runs along Tetons and the Elk Preserve. Nice ride.

Yep, we did that drive this summer. It's gorgeous, and only takes about an hour.

If something like the Island Park Caldera eruption of 2.2M years ago were to happen again, the result for much of the U.S. would be pretty grim. Considering the geological record, it's more a question of "when," not "if." Yellowstone's last big blow was 640,000 years ago. The most recent supervolcanic events there have been spaced at about 650,000 to 800,000 years, FWIW.

Oh, no worries then. By that estimate we're good for another 10,000-160,00 years.

Yep, as long as they are on his ranch!!

At FRA on the way home I did some duty free shopping. This is a picture from that shopping that I thought the box would enjoy!

Hello Box!

Apparently AS is adding to its HI lift... from this post in the AS forum today... it sounds like AS is adding a SJC-KOA & SJC-OGG flight in March

Hmm... OGG is becoming a mini-hub of AS... OGG-SEA, OGG-ANC, OGG-PDX, OGG-OAK, OGG-SJC :p
