That's sometimes the case, but not always. I think that usually happens more with groups that are actually using meeting space in some of the hotels. In cases of very large conferences, where the event is at a convention center and little or no meeting space in nearby hotels is being used, it's not.

I was having this very problem in planning for my wedding. Most of the hotels we looked at had F&B revenue requirements that were so far and above what we would cover in hotel room stays that it did not make any sense. What we wound up with was far better in retrospect.

I assumed that did these events would understand but didnt know hwo has and hasnt done them before. I recall a university sponsered evnt in particular where the roomrate that you booked directly was less and because so many had done this that the group/college was having to pay extra for meeting space. |
