That's sometimes the case, but not always. I think that usually happens more with groups that are actually using meeting space in some of the hotels. In cases of very large conferences, where the event is at a convention center and little or no meeting space in nearby hotels is being used, it's not.

True with convention centers. Being from LAS every hotel has convention space to spare and some have more than the convention centers in most cities.

I was having this very problem in planning for my wedding. Most of the hotels we looked at had F&B revenue requirements that were so far and above what we would cover in hotel room stays that it did not make any sense. What we wound up with was far better in retrospect.

well the F&B and hotel rooms divisions are not always doing bookings in cooperation as they have there own budgets to deal with. I am working with that here in my current position. I think we should be doing a little more econocy talk during this downturn but prices dont move much at all unless a donor comes a knocking.

I certainly know how it works, having run conferences in a past life. I just don't like it when I am the one footing the bill for the higher hotel rate.

I assumed that did these events would understand but didnt know hwo has and hasnt done them before. I recall a university sponsered evnt in particular where the roomrate that you booked directly was less and because so many had done this that the group/college was having to pay extra for meeting space.

Yeah, that makes more sense. Temperature change has not hit yet; watching a live update weather station.

Leading edge of cloud cover is just passing GRK, may need another half hour or so to get down here.
