And I'm not interested in discussing "teaching to the test". The public school curriculum can be stultifying.

Ours WAS only a half day!
I remember our school district's kindergarten being a full day, but for only half the year for a while. Then they switched to half day, full year. |

Me too. Then the teacher had to talk to my parents because I wouldn't wake up from naps. :o
I was somewhat of a brat at that age. I hated being forced to use a spoon in the lunch room when in the first grade, and got in trouble for demanding a fork from a teacher, and telling her that if I had been using a fork at home for several years, I was perfectly capable of using a fork at school. Trying to eat things like enchiladas or chicken was next to impossible. I also got in trouble for telling my first grade teacher that I didn't need to know my addition and subtraction tables by memory because by the time I was in college we'd use calculators and computers for that stuff. That got me my first trip to the office. But you know what, I was right. And then there was a certain "contest" in the boy's room that got a whole group of us sent to the office in the first grade. We were responsible for a number of stains on the ceiling. |

Yes it is and we pay a he!! of a lot of property taxes. There was a whole song and dance about budget cuts. You have no idea how ready I am to ditch public schools after 6 short weeks. I am so tired of getting asked for handouts almost every other day (no exaggeration) but having her ask - I'm sorry, it's just insane.

I have my first homeroom mommy (and daddy) meeting next week. I think I am going to stand out as one of these parents is not like the other. Monitor says I need to be outsourcing these things:D, but I am trying to do a couple of "normal" mom things because I feel anything but. That and I want to keep an eye on her teacher ;)

Agree. I never turn down a Girl Scout because I was one. I have never ever turned down a Girl Scout in my life even when I was blowing my grocery budget :) I will typically ask that they donate to whatever charity they have set up (usually a food bank or sending to soldiers) because we end up with too many here as it is :D BL JR has first Girl Scout meeting next week. I see cases of cookies in my future!
Also, why not have PC meets for people to buy cookies from your daughter at the airport and return months alter with bags of cookies to pass out!

But back rooming is certainly not the routine for the vast majority of arriving passengers.

Yes, all day; which is why she doesn't like coming straight home and dealing with more school work (I let her eat first though :) ).

I don't blame her. I don't like doing homework as an adult either. That's why the project I should be working on this evening still isn't started.

"Due to the fact that I have not previously been informed to the highest degree of accuracy; I hesitate to articulate for fear that I may deviate, from the true course of rectitude by which means I would be incriminating myself". You can imagine how well that went over with my first grade teacher. |
